We had a wonderful stay. From the moment we arrived, in the pouring down rain, the staff was pleasant and helpful. After a day of walking in the rain following Hadrian’s Wall, we had a wonderful dinner, long showers in the spacious bathroom, and a good sleep in a comfortable bed. It got even better the next morning with a delicious full English before we hit the path again. We definitely recommend to other travelers.
This place was great. At first, we didn't know where the Keelman Lodging was so we asked a staff member in the brewery and she was super kind and told us where to go. Our room was quite big, with two medium sized beds, a table, window and a bathroom. The room was clean and tidy. The location is just outside of Newcastle and the nearest Metro station is about a 10 minute drive away.
Spacious, clean room, great service with a good choice of lovely, well cooked meals. Staff were friendly and attentive. Breakfast was lovely. Excellent value for moneyRooms: 5/5
I went here to treat myself to a weekend away after a spell of poor health. I couldn't have chosen better really. My room was on the ground floor in the Salmon Cottage building and faced the garden at the back of the property. I wanted serenity and I got it. Lovely deep bath with an amazingly powerful shower and the room was warm and cosy. Bed was super comfy. I ate in the restaurant each night as I like a glass or two of wine with my dinner and didn't want to drive anywhere. The menu, I would say, is fairly simple pub grub but generous portions, well presented and most importantly, hot! I had to ask for half portions on everything. I had breakfast there too. It was ok, a small set of choices but again, plentiful and hot. I'm not an ale drinker but the Big Lamp brewery is right next door and I believe they do tours in high season. I had a walk by the river either before or after dinner every evening. At the weekend the rowers were out there is a rowing club very nearby which is also nice for a drink with views across the river. The standout for me was the staff, who were really accommodating and instantly made me feel welcome, which is really important when you're travelling alone. I must mention Helen, who couldn't do enough for me and was very attentive. I'd like to go back when the weather is better as I can imagine the river walks would be stunning with the woodlands in full bloom. The building is beautiful and I felt so chilled out when I left on Sunday. It was exactly what I needed and just a 40 minute drive from where I live.
Brilliant place to visit....fantastic selection of real ales from the oldest brewery in the N.E. a good and wide selection of food served by friendly staff at reasonable prices compared to other establishments in the area..... Highly recommended for its location along the banks of the river Tyne ..
Accommodation was very good, shower was excellent, bed was very comfortable, would have been 5 star's but we had an evening meal and it was the worst meal I have had for a very long time, would recommend the rooms but not the food.
Its normally very good. But the most recent meal i had was a disgrace. The cooked tomatoes was burnt BLACK the steak you could have soled shoes with. The waitress was very apologetic, the the manager said "well theirs nothing we can do about it". WOW. Talk about bad customer service. Lol. If he'd have offered a slight discount that would have been SOMETHING he could have done.. But no not in his vocabulary.
Excellent place to stay overnight while in Newcastle area as an alternative to the inflated prices of a city center hotel room on a Saturday night. Room was very nice and in a location away from the pub and restaurant. As this is also a micro brewery there was a good selection of local ales to choose from and all of quality. Food was also good quality and the beer garden full to capacity. The only negative is trying to find the place even with sat nav. The post code takes you to the boat club but it is not far from there and all the locals pointed us in the right direction. Costs £15-20 for a taxi to/from the Quayside but beware even the black cab taxi drivers are not sure of this location. Breakfast is well worth the money with continental and hot choices.
Staff were great, beer excellent and the restaurant better than average. The room was very tired and would benefit with refurbishment. It was difficult to get hit water to the shower, the shower control was dirty and after a day of rain the room was damp and cold with no apparent way to add heat as the heating was turned off.Rooms: 2/5
Bathroom ha damp all over it, behind the toilet had not been cleaned. The restaurant served salad the consisted of leaves 1 tomato sliced into 4 wedges, no dressing we had to ask for it. No olives ect as described on the menu, in the evening we returned around 1030pm to a very smug bar man/boy whom could not serve us as he had taken the till off as they had been quiet however still had around 6-10 people sitting. Not the best. We didn't go for breakfast and was told they would refund us later however not been done yet 2-3wks later.
