Situated on Pink Lane, this pub can easily be passed. Selling local beer and a good selection of drinks. Very friendly staff. We visited at lunchtime so no performance happening. Enjoyed a light lunch as a break from the shopping. Good food; very tasty and well presented. Reasonable prices alongside quality mean the Jazz Cafe gets full marks. Very clean and tidy with a contemporary feel to the deco. Fits in well with the theme they're trying to portray.
A good meeting place when doing classes at Newcastle Arts Centre, down a narrow lane and at the end of an alley, with Central Station just across from the front door down another! In an old part of Newcastle. Very friendly folks serving and the food was tasty.
Niche venue which has a jazz cafe on the first floor. Small is size and very intimate but really nice. Not personally my cup of tea but can certainly see why people enjoy it. The drink isn't the cheapest but isn't the most expensive. If you like jazz, pop you're head in and find out when the next performance/show is. Quite unique to Newcastle actually.
Really poor service. I booked tickets for my fiancé and I to see a band there for his birthday. We went in and where struck by the off-hand service at the bar. After watching half of the set, which was great, we came back downstairs for a drink and I ordered a gin and tonic. It was served without lemon and after a minute, my partner asked the bar staff to add lemon "to make it more fruity". We started to go back upstairs for the second part of the gig and as we left, the bar tender said to her colleague: 'there's only one word for him'. We heard and went back to ask what she meant and she denied having said anything. She then said she meant the two words were 'thank you' and proceeded to be sarcastic and rude to us. She changed our words and accused us of asking for lemon 'to make the drink less sh*t'. We were made to feel totally unwelcome despite having done nothing wrong, and we left without seeing the second part of the gig. Needless to say, the awful service completely spoiled our evening, not to mention the money we wasted on tickets and drinks. We were offended and deeply upset by the rude service we received and in no way deserved; I would not recommend going here!
Staff standing around talking, especially when so busy. Yes, people due to lack of space leaning on bar, but staff should be attentive to who is waiting to be served and those that are there already. Also, staff should look around the corner towards the piano, people were waiting there too....
Changed owner and management since the legend that was Keith died. Has been given a complete revamp. Good to listen to the sound of a jazz saxophone drifting up pink lane again, do a selection of food and coffee tea as well as alcohol. Worth a visit
I booked the upstairs room at the Jazz Cafe for our Green Thinkers bookclub. It was the ideal venue with cosy sofas and tasty food and drinks. All very conducive to a good discussion.
Location was great and it had a cosy atmosphere. The food took a while to come and it was a bit cold but tasted good and they were able to offer me a gluten option.
One of Newcastle's best meeting up places! good food n drink, live music and friendly staff
Buffet was superb as had a networking event there. Nice location will go back for the music and coffee
