Charming hotel close to the historic dockyard. Friendly staff. Could do with some renovation. Good beds and cozy rooms but shower was so-so. Loved the restaurant. Good food for very reasonable prices. Loved the cheese platter. Lots of atmosphere. Rooms: Rooms are nice and cozy but could use a renovation. Food & drinks: Small menu but fresh and reasonably priced.
Only went for a drink to pick up friends. Have eaten meals there before. It's a delightful, comfortable, friendly place. A lovely atmosphere, super lovely friendly staff. You could go alone and feel perfectly safe and accommodated. Highly recommended. Food & drinks: Excellent standard. Delightful staff. Great atmosphere. Clean and accomodating.
Very good place good food and the rooms are very nice. Darren the bar man will have you laughing all night highly recommend this place. There is a car park opposite which is pay on exit the hotel gives you discount vouchers for it Rooms: Very clean and well kept rooms Food & drinks: The chef will accommodate all you needs with the menu
A bit dated decor but clean and comfortable rooms. Super location for Dockyard visits. Good pub & restaurant. Full English breakfast served and tasty fish dinners. Nearby activities: Dockyards Walkability: Walk to train station, restaurants, shopping and sites.
The hotel is really amazing. It's super close to the Historic Dockyard & the railway station, which is a great advantage to the visitors. You can save the time of traveling between attractions and the hotel. On the other hand, delicious breakfast is included, which makes the price more competitive. Friendly reminder, the hotel is quite historic, thus there is no lift. If you don't mind, it will be a good choice when you visit Portsmouth.
We popped in today there was 11 of us. We were meet with a very warm and friendly service from all members of the bar team . We all had a Sunday lunch that was fantastic and excellent value you for money even the customers were warm and friendly and welcoming .we all agree that we all definitely return to this little gem in queen Street thanks guys for such a lovely day
What a jewel in Portsmouth’s crown. The George is a short two minute walk from Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and five minutes from Gunwharf shopping and dining district and Spinnaker Tower. The rooms are comfortable and clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. We were so happy to have found The George. There is a great restaurant in the hotel, which is a traditional English Inn. The breakfast which was included in our room rate was fantastic. The room rate was great value for money. One of the best hotels we have stayed in on our trip.
Clean and comfortable room, friendly staff, good meals. Only reason I didn't give a 5 is that wardrobe and drawer unit could be updated. Nearby activities: Close to Portsmouth Dockyard, easy parking opposite hotel. Easy walk to get to town centre and lots of places to visit at Southsea which is short car journey. Close to train and bus station.
What a fabulous short break we had! So close to The Historic Docks where all the attractions are. Our room was lovely and clean and had everything we needed, including a much needed fan! Although it didn’t bother myself and my son for those of you who struggle with stairs make sure you speak to the hotel first, it’s an old building with lots of stairs. The food was great and the staff were so helpful and friendly, nothing was too much for them. Thank you to all at The George, we will definitely be back!
My first visit although I've meant to visit from when I was living at Gunwharf. A lovely interior with a real historical feel, welcoming staff and a good beer selection. Definitely visiting again when the restaurant is open as the menu looks really good.
