Stayed for 1 night and was pleasantly surprised! Check in was at 3pm and was quick, the staff are friendly as well. Parking costs £5 per night, the car park is a little tight but you can buy a permit to park on the street for the same price.nnI chose a family room and it was very spacious, it had a double bed, a single and a sofa bed. The room was clean, it could do with a refurbishment as it shows its age, but it was functional enough. The bathroom was modern and had a shower. The soundproofing is good enough as well.nnThe swimming pool was a bit small but it included a sauna and steam room. The jacuzzi was not working which was a bit disappointing.nnThe breakfast had a good variety of continental and cooked breakfast. There was a coffee machine and you could order other cooked breakfast to order. The only letdown was that the juices tasted watered down especially the orange juice.nnOverall a pretty good stay!
We booked a suite for a reunion with people staying over the whole weekend. Food was disgusting. It was cold and inedible. Everyone had been served and finished their food, and our table hadn't even got any food. I had to eventually find someone in the kitchen and ask where our food was. When it eventually came, we had to send it back as it was cold. They brought it back a 2nd time, and it was still cold. I ordered the fish I had never seen or smelt anything like it,it was disgusting. I have never had a meal as bad as that in all my life. The 1 star was for the serving staff. Holiday Inn, you need to give serious thought to your chef. Night before, they even ran out of food in the restaurant. More than half of the menu had run out. You should be ashamed to even call it food. Get a grip.
Pretty terrible stay at the Holiday Inn in Portsmouth. I wasn’t expecting too much but even some of the bare minimum requirements of a 3* hotel weren’t met.nnOur room a premium family room was outdated and clearly hadn’t been deep cleaned in many years carpets, curtains, limescale in the bathroom etc. The toilet flush didn’t work properly but the staff wouldn’t change our room or do much other than say “give it a wiggle”. The television is so old that the images on screen are distorted. The coffee machine didn’t work either. That said, the bed was reasonably decent and whilst the bathroom is exceptionally small, the shower had good temperature and pressure. There is also complimentary bottled water.nnThe worst part for me was that the reception staff are most inefficient and indifferent and every query was met with an excuse as to why they couldn’t accommodate it. Not a single smile in sight either!nnThe swimming pool is right next to the car park so you can see in and out through the full glass windows which I didn’t enjoy. The jacuzzi wasn’t working it’s not been for months I believe and the area is not particularly clean or well maintained. We walked in and straight back out again. I didn’t see the gym so can’t comment on its quality.nnIn addition, the car park is a bit of a nightmare with very tight spaces and not much security. To also charge £5 a day seems unfair especially since at some points there was no parking available and the alternative is to park on the street offsite.nnI can’t comment on the breakfast since I opted out it looked very greasy.nnAll in all, not the worst ever stay but certainly wouldn’t recommend this hotel nor stay here again.
Staff and service make such a difference to how enjoyable a stay can be, I must say Carolina at the bar was outstanding. Friendly, professional, polite and an exemplary ambassador for the hotel group. Thank you for making our stay so memorable for all the right reasons.
Unacceptable Stay – Avoid Holiday Inn PortsmouthnnI’ve stayed at many hotels over the years, but my recent experience at the Holiday Inn Portsmouth was nothing short of a disaster. From the moment we arrived, it was clear that this hotel doesn’t care about its guests or their comfort.nnRoom Issues: We booked for four people, yet every single day we had to remind the staff to set up the room for four instead of three. Coffee supplies were never restocked, the coffee machine didn’t work, and the kettle was filthy on the outside. Even worse, the cups and teaspoons were dirty, with visible drink marks still on them.nnAir Conditioning Nightmare: The air conditioning in our room was broken the entire stay. After two days of complaining, we were casually told that’s just how it is and that an engineer might show up – but no one ever came, and we were left to swelter for the entire week without any follow-up from the staff.nnHygiene Issues: The cleanliness of the room was appalling. The carpets clearly hadn’t been hoovered before or during our stay, and there were large, disgusting snot marks and body hairs stuck to the walls and bathroom door, likely from using dirty cloths. Despite staying for a full week, there was no fresh linen provided at any point.nnSmoking at the Entrance: There were people smoking right outside the entrance every day, making it impossible to avoid the stench when entering or exiting – not ideal, especially with children.nnBreakfast Disaster: The breakfast area was a complete nightmare. The coffee machines were constantly broken, and when they worked, they were in an awful state, with dirty, moldy spouts. The drink stations were never cleaned during service, leaving juice and water tasting old and stale. Glasses and cups were often dirty, and we had to inspect each one before using it. The food was no better – undercooked eggs, overcooked sausages, and filthy seating areas made for an unpleasant experience.nnUnhelpful Staff: The attitude from most of the front desk staff was indifferent at best. Apart from two ladies who were genuinely helpful, the rest of the team couldn't care less. After all the issues, when we were asked how our stay was during check-out and said “not great,” we were simply told “thanks, have a great day.” That was it – no apology, no effort to make it right.nnCar Park Horror: To add insult to injury, we paid for parking only to find fresh, large dog poo right behind our car, and it's not even a dog walking area. We didn’t notice it until it was too late – my shoes stepped right into it while loading the car. Trying to get wet dog poo out of leather shoes is no small feat, and it was the perfect ending to an awful stay.nnI honestly wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone. It was the worst hotel experience we’ve ever had, and the complete lack of care from the staff made it even worse. If you value cleanliness, decent service, and a comfortable stay, avoid the Holiday Inn Portsmouth at all costs.
