The Bristol Bike Project

About

A place to learn, to volunteer, to buy a bike, get your bike fixed, to get involved. For anyone who rides a bike!

Story

The Bristol Bike Project aims to provide free bicycles to underprivileged groups that would not otherwise have the opportunity to own a bicycle. People that would like a bike must be prepared to come to our workshop space and to work alongside us overhauling their own bike which they may then take away with a quality lock and lights. All of our bikes are donated to us by the general public and are either unwanted and unused or require more work than they are worth. We want this to be a sustainable project with the emphasis being about helping people help themselves. We therefore encourage and promote the learning of new skills and skill-sharing amongst peer groups, an increased awareness of how bicycles work and aim to prevent as much as possible from going to landfill by recycling everything that we possibly can! if you have any unwanted bikes or would like any further information, please email james & colin at: [email protected] thanks!

I bought a bike from here and it was well priced and well built. I recently returned with a small issue and they repaired it quickly and without charge. The people who work there are extremely knowledgeable, helpful and friendly
I heard that they are doing a good job supporting refugees and asylum seekers, so took my bike there to be fixed and support their business. I was incredibly disappointed with the cheap job they delivered and it was so expensive too. Absolutely lovely and friendly folks, had my bike done so quickly, but literally, the day after I took my bike to a proper bike shop to be fixed and they charged me less.
Terrific customer service - went to considerable lengths to find a Shimano 10-speed Tiagra shifter for me and sold it for a great price, having ensured it would fit brought my bike in for them to check. Thank you to everyone involved!
Friendly, fast and accommodating service! Took my bike in on the chance that BBP would have a replacement carbon fork after I discovered mine was heavily coroded. Morgan found the closest fit to my existing fork and was able to adapt it to match the current ride position on the bike. Headset and brake calipers also replaced for a fraction of the cost of an all new fork. Great work!
Remove .org from your URL if you are going to sell a second hand bike for £250+. Better and new bikes are available in that range elsewhere.
Both times I've been in here for a bike repair the service has been fantastic- as someone who doesn't know an awful lot about bikes, they were really helpful in explaining the different options so I could make an informed decision, with costs made clear upfront. It's very reasonably priced too, with a quick turnaround. Couldn't recommend enough!
Really great service for level 2 bike clean and repair. My bike feels so much better. Had some parts replaced as well and they were honest about the prices
Really brilliant initiative which meant I could get a great quality bike for a reasonable price, and with the confidence that it has been completely refurbished and is safe to ride. The lady in the shop was super friendly and helpful and made everything really simple.
Tried to donate two bikes in good condition but they wouldn’t take them because they were single speed. It didn’t say anything about single speed bikes on the website. They wouldn’t even take them for parts. Luckily as I was on my way to the tip to throw them away a random stranger asked if he could have them, so I guess I was able to donate them anyway, but the bike project wasn’t helpful.
Lovely & knowledgeable staff, highly recommended!
