I am writing to share my experience of a three-night stay at The St Ives Bay Hotel, which was the worst hotel experience I have had so far. To start, I arrived at the hotel early in the morning and found no one at the reception. Eventually, a lady called a receptionist named Fred. I left my luggage there since the check-in time was 3 PM, but I requested an earlier check-in if possible. The response I received was very unprofessional. Another housekeeping lady, who looked very untidy, was sitting at the desk and informed me that check-in is at 3 PM. There was no courtesy or customer service; I felt like I was begging for something. Having worked in hospitality for three years in some of the world's biggest hotels like Marriott, I never treated guests like that. Later, another lady took over the reception and gave me room 025. When I entered, it was dark during the daytime, with just one small window that was unreachable without a ladder. I was shocked. I carried my luggage down the stairs since there were no lifts and requested another room. They gave me room 014, but the bedsheet had not been changed and had a mark on it. I am attaching pictures as proof. The carpet was infested with bugs, and I killed many bugs over the three days. The walls looked like they belonged in a haunted house. There was a walkway outside my window, which made me feel insecure and scared. When I complained again, the lady at reception ignored me and made me feel insignificant. It was a terrible feeling as a customer and a woman traveling alone. I didn't say anything further as I was alone and far from home in London. I stayed quiet because of the unprofessional behavior of the staff. Moreover, the shower was broken, making it difficult to use. I have attached a picture of that as well.
We had a lovely stay in this hotel. After reading previous reviews we were slightly put off however we went for it and are pleased we did. Our room had a view to die for over the bay 317 beds comfy, everything sparkling clean, the shower room looked newly tiled.. breakfast was lovely and the staff really attentive. Would stay here again Rooms: Lovely, clean and comfortable, great sea view
We were worried before some bad reviews, however the hotel didn’t that outdated and old. We booked a sea-view double room, carpet was brand new and room was huge!! Female receptionist was very friendly and greeted to everyone who walked in. Location is fantastic just 5mins walk to beach and hotel has a first-come-first-serve free car park.
I recently stayed at St Ives Bay Hotel a few days ago, and i have to say that for the incredibly reasonable rate. It had charm, character, lovely staff and clean bedding. I have read some of the reviews on here, and to be honest with you, I cant see what people are complaining about. This hotel is a good 3* hotel, in St Ives, it caters to a vast array of people. You get a clean room, good bedding, decent breakfast. The staff are attentive and polite and i rather enjoyed my stay there. I would happily return again in tne summer months when it is warmer. Keep up the great work. Rooms: Room 22 has views to die for, definetly upgrade to a superior double. You get what you pay for. And although you cant reserve a specific room, if you do what we did and request the room, the hotel will try their best to accommodate your needs. Safety: The hotel is locked after midnight, so it feels safer to stay in Walkability: Very east walking distance to the beach and town centre Food & drinks: The bar is well stock with a good choice
Excellent location, staff are really attentive, but the hotel is in a serious need for a lick of paint and new windows. The carpets throughout the building need replacing. The shower in our room was just more than a trickle, but the room was warm, and the bed was comfortable, the window in our room was cracked and was held together with tape and the window frame was rotten, apart from that the views over the sea were spectacular. Walkability: In walking distance to the train station and the centre of St ives, quite a few hills so it's not really suitable for a disabled person .
Overall, very well organised. Meal times work well as you pre-order for the days of your stay on the first day. Very efficient and friendly staff, you get the impression they want to serve you and care that everything is right. They do work very hard and there sends to be a good spirit of teamwork among them. One of the staff was very complimentary about her boss in the kitchen area. Good WiFi and reasonably fast too - all free for guests. Rooms provide your basic needs. I'd would be happy to return to this hotel.
This hotel is a perfect example of you get what you pay for. The room was basic but perfectly functional, the breakfasts were good and the staff attentive and courteous. The hotel was a nice little hotel. It wasn’t the Hilton but then I wasn’t paying Hilton prices. The location was fabulous being just a short walk from Porthminster Beach and only about a ten minute walk to the harbour. So all in all, I enjoyed my short stop at The St. Ives Bay and I will certainly be stopping there again. Rooms: Basic but functional. The bed was very warm and comfy. Tv, kettle with tea and coffee, hair dryer, and en-suite shower room. Noteworthy details: Like a lot of hotels in the area, it doesn't have much in the way of parking. So be prepared to have to call a taxi, or have quite a walk, to get too and from your car!
What a shambles of a place. Not seen a lick of paint in many, many years, so outdated. Floor boards broken, just the carpets holding them up. Food was adequate- not replenished Some staff aren’t very polite. So disappointed Update Yeah we did ask them to refill breakfast to be told there’s only 10 mins left so won’t be! Service was only available from 8am - 9am!! The place has potential to be amazing but needs loving
Fantastic location for visiting St Ives, but let down by dated decor and facilities. Finally the customer facing staff need to get a better basic grasp of customer service and communication skills, having worked in the service industry for a number of years the staff I interacted with during my stay seemed to be full of excuses, no solutions and very little in the way of apologies with no apparent empathy for their customers. Also concerned with the lack of security related to the issuing of room keys. Ps please don't reply to me telling me that if I tried at the time something could of been done, I did ask and was told excuses of why it couldn't be and it wasn't their fault, very poor expect more in these times. Rooms: Concerned that a lot of light enter into room below a so called fire door into the room? Safety: Lack of security related to the issuing of keys no proof of residence checked
Just returned from a lovely couple of days staying at the St Ives Bay Hotel. We received a lovely welcome from the gentleman on reception. We had a lovely, clean and comfortable room, with a beautiful view overlooking the sea. Thank you for a such a comfortable stay. We can thoroughly recommend.Rooms: 5/5
