DIY place to stay, left to own devices but well equipped kitchen and good rooms.Rooms: 4/5
So good we stayed an extra night! Loved the large room with very large comfy bed and it was a nice character property with gorgeous gardens with a stream. Nice powerful shower with hot water, fast WiFi! Enjoyed the fridge in the shared kitchen with ice maker! Towels were a nice suprise thank you : the location is exceptional never wanted to leave so many things to do nearby including walking up to tongue pot for a swim, the eskdale railway, hardknot pass is fun but not for the faint hearted, the roman Fort, woolpack Inn does yummy food and drink, close to wasdale which is beautiful. No toilet roll was available so bring your own and some of the bath was stained, but everything appeared clean still, remote for TV didn't work and the dvd player inside the TV didnt work which was a shame but not the end of the world.
Lovely house, great location, owners friendly and helpful if any problemsRooms: 4/5
This self-catering option was everything we could ask for. Quiet and clean rooms with simple access. It was great to have a cheaper option that was still clean and safe and nice. We had great interactions with other travelers staying at the property in the common areas. Located just a little ways down the road from the Boot Inn.Rooms: 5/5
Beautiful location, amazing gardens with a river running down the end of the garden path. Just don’t make the mistake we made of getting there through hardknock pass!
Spent 4 nights in this hotel. The staff do not bother you at all, you can go out or stay in which ever you want. There are 2 big sitting rooms downstairs, and a kitchen to die for, it has everything you need, it is organized and very clean. The rooms are cozy with the facilities to make your own tea or coffee. I would recommend this hotel to everyone.
Reason for the stay mum's Christmas present delayed till July Booking easy through booking online. Cost £79 fairest price in the valley. Called the boss to show us around she was delayed so we had time look around and inspect like an RSM on parade - - - noticed the front of house needs a lick of paint n tlc just a little bit grubby and overflowing bin/skip was obvious to see. Clean tidy rooms, shower fine very warm room so had to prop window with the bin. Absolutely No complaints!! just observations to help future visitor expectations. The lady was brilliant at booking us in at the local restaurant up the road. The garden was stunning loved being down by the river... Thanks for letting me camp...
I too thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Stanley House. The house is in a beautiful position in the Eskdale valley, perfect for walking and biking, and most importantly has four nice pubs close by. The property itself is able to easily cater for our large party. It’s fantastic that the rooms are en suite, with showers that actually work, something which we’ve found difficult to find with other properties. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor space, and the log burning fires provide a lovely ambience. Although the property would benefit from a bit of TLC, this is the third year we’ve been to the property and it seems like the owners are making an effort to make positive changes year upon year which they should be given credit for. I have found the staff perfectly pleasant and happy to help in any dealings I have had with them. During this stay they fixed a small problem with our bathroom door lock quickly and without fuss. I guess this type of review is subjective, but from my perspective, Stanley House is a lovely property in an excellent location for a family break. I can’t wait to visit again...
The house keeper was very accommodating with our late arrival. But was not staying on site so when we realised there were no toiletries not even a bar of soap in the bathroom we were astounded and quite surprised. We were traveling light on the motorbike and didn't pack soap as we have always found where ever we've stayed provided soap and assumed there would be some kind of soap in the bathroom.
I am writing to balance the view put forward by puma252017, one of our group who posted her individual review without any reference to others in the party. The very fact that this was our and her third visit would suggest to you that we have been happy to return and, like others, have found that the property suited our needs. I loved every bit of the stay here and would recommend Stanley House for a group stay. Plus points for me, and I am only speaking for myself but I know others in the group agree with me, are as follows:- Great to be able to hire the whole place on a self-catering basis A large place to accommodate a large family party of mixed ages. So much room that at no point are people fighting for space or feeling crowded. All bedrooms are ensuite and of a good size with convenient adjoining rooms in some cases with shared bathroom for suitable family spaces. I have slept in 2 different rooms and found the beds to be very comfortable - all Sealy ones I think. Beds made up on arrival and linen and towels provided and were very clean. Whilst there were occasional glitches with hot water for the most part it was plentiful and very hot. Having log fires in the reception rooms was a lovely feature and much appreciated and there was no shortage of logs. The location is superb. You do not need to get in the car again until you leave. Lovely walks from the door and 3 pubs within walking distance is PDG! We sampled the ales in most. The Woolpack owners/staff were very helpful even giving some a lift back to Stanley House when weather was bad. Walks can be as long/short, hard/easy as you want to make them. The Ravenglass & Eskdale railway has a stop just across the road lovely to see the steam train passing. The kitchen and dining area is very spacious with lovely views over the garden and river. Whilst we did have some difficulty with the hob it was not a major issue and someone came immediately to help us with it. Yes, like others have said, the house is a bit dated and needs some tlc but for a family group this meant that we did not have to have eyes in the back of our head when the children were running around enjoying themselves. For the price of one nights B&B in a London hotel you can have a 5 night stay in Eskdale with all food included! There was no muddle with the booking either. Just a muddle with the day the cleaners were due in and that was soon sorted. TO SUM IT UP A GOOD WEEK WAS HAD BY ALL NEARLY!!!!!! Stayed: February 2018
