Story

An original 17th Century Coaching Inn, The Bower House has been a popular 'stop off' for travelers to Cumbria as well as local people for almost 300 years.
The low 'oak beamed' ceilings and thick stone walls, provide our guests with a homely retreat, to drink local ales in the bar - or enjoy 1st class cuisine in our restaurant.

Found this gem on our way back from 'trying' to climb Scafell Pike. Lots of parking; clean, spacious and with it's own great views! The Inn was welcoming and you could feel the happy atmosphere on entrance. Coming in to a real fire was such a relief, we instantly felt relaxed and comfortable. No-one was at the reception because they were all serving at the bar/ restaurant. It was easy to follow the laughter to the bar. The waitress was really helpful and made room for us to sit and have a meal and not just drinks. She recommended items from the menu that were more specific to the area and their kitchen (she said 'don't order what you can get anywhere in the country'). We all had local made or local brewery drinks too. Amazing visit that really did rejuvenate us😁

This friendly pub in eskdale is very good and comfortable. Just eaten here 4 people 4 different meals and we were all very impressed. Will definitely be calling here again

Fantastic hotel, room very clean, food really good, staff lovely and very welcoming. We were there for St Georges weekend, lovely family day in the afternoon and the live music in the evening was great. We will definately be back.

Dropped in for dinner but we hadn't booked and they were busy. Managed to get us a table. Food was good and reasonably priced. Would go back.

Absolutely great place, the drinks are brilliant. Stocks enough to please everyone. There's karaoke and even some beer gardens for those of us brave enough. The owners an absolute lad too.
