We did travel quite far to Leyton to try smoke and pepper as they have their viral Flying Dutchman burger which is inspired by in-N-out’s very own Flying Dutchman burger which essentially is a cheeseburger that uses grilled onions as a bun. From what I know it’s the only fast food restaurant in the country that does anything like that and they have free branches in the country I know they have a couple in London with two in East London and one in west. I also got Chicken tenders covered in Algerian sauce, sweet potato fries, strawberry milkshake and a non-alcoholic mojito called Bora Bora.nnThe foodnnThe chicken tenders were cooked well they were crispy and quite hefty in size. I normally love some Algerian sauce and I did like the tender initially but for me Algerian sauce is quite intense and I don’t like too much of it. But these were absolutely smothered in them so it became a bit sickening after the first one and I couldn’t finish them because there was way too much sauce on them.nnThe Flying Dutchman burger was okay i definitely think it’s overhyped and that’s coming from someone who loves grilled onions. The onions weren’t that caramelised even though I asked for it to be extra caramelised, the patties weren’t very seasoned, the onions tasted like the outer layer that is normally hard when left on, was left on so parts were soft and other parts were hard to bite through. There was an obscene amount of oil from the burger so it was a hot mess after a couple bites but what made it okay was the peppers that came with it and the fact I added pickles without it, it definitely wouldn’t be worth the trek at all.nnThe fries were good, and their homemade sauces were actually really good.nnThe Bora Bora drink was sweet and refreshing I really enjoyed but the strawberry cream milkshake could’ve been left out because it wasn’t anything special a bit too thick.nnOverall I think I got the wrong items and if I got different ones I would’ve had a more enjoyable experience but it’s also quite far away from me to say that I will be visiting again any time soon. Rating 6.2/10
Amazing burgers & tenders.nI had the big smoke, really good smash burger, very juicy and flavourful. Only thing I’d like to see is some more meat.nnThe tenders are always so juicy and cooked perfectly. Korea sauce is my favourite.nnService is really good, and they provide plenty of nice sauce sachets for takeaway. I will say the service has always been slow, but I’m ok to wait for really good food.
Quaint little place but nonetheless.nTried the Flying Dutchman, NOT a fan, was super gutted by this. The meat was perfect but the concept doesn’t work as you will have stringy onion falling out your mouth.nThe DYNO bites was good and fries was good. Nothing spectacular.nOverall a nice casual quick place. will maybe return for another burger not that onion thing.nAlso though it was slightly pricey for what it is. Que and order, quick food, no service.
We visited Smoke & Pepper in Leyton and tried their newly launched ‘The Flying Dutchman’ burger, along with their popular Big Smoke and Brisket Burger with Gravy. We also ordered the Korean Loaded Fries and Brisket Loaded Fries. The food was of good quality, freshly prepared, and full of flavour. As everything is made to order, we had a 20-minute wait, which was reasonable. We also tried the Pacha Mojito, which was just about okay and didn’t quite match the quality of the food.nnThe venue is relatively small, with seating for around 20–30 people, so we had to wait briefly as it was busy. Burger portions were on the smaller side, but the fries were served in generous portions. The prices were fair for the quality, and based on our visit, we’d be happy to return to try more from the menu.
Visited a few times as they are one of the better halal burger joints. The loaded fries, tenders and smashed burgers are a must try
