Story

Discover the once prolific pottery industry of South Derbyshire from bricks and toilets to elaborate art pottery at the award winning Sharpe's Pottery Museum.

With our iconic kiln hovel at the centre, our museum has had some exciting new additions in recent years; the newest being a Heritage Lottery Funded Exhibition 'A Toilet Story', which opened in July 2013. Other additions include a Children's Outside Playzone, Coffee Shop, Cafe Espresso and an interactive exhibition telling the story of The National Forest.

The museum also houses a Tourist Information Centre and a Gift Shop selling a range of locally sourced items perfect for that unique gift!

Very well laid out with a spectacular centre piece with the bottle kiln. Nice children's area and cafe. Very informative. Free parking only a couple of minutes walk away.

Love the Museum, Wonderful place and great staff definitely 5 star. But what a big let down with the Cafe, it states that it closes at 4.00 but that is a LIE, it closes at 3.30 so the staff can clean up. If you advertise closure at 4 that's the time you close and then you clean up. We were turned away without an apology, so much for supporting local small businesses, here's one that not worth the bother.......

Interesting place to visit. Caters for almost everyone. Cafe a bit limited and probably overpriced but the quality is there to slightly compensate. Children can have an enjoyable time but not really suitable for pushchairs as there is nowhere to put them and then people can't get round.
