Excellent slice of history, and it's free to get in. Not suitable for wheelchair users unfortunately, and it is a short walk to get there, as it is not on a road. However well worth the effort. Go to there website to find a day it is in steam and see it in action

Best to go when it's open and working by the volunteer supporters. It's usually the first weekend of each month. Fantastic to see this piece of industrial history in action. The volunteers are a wealth of knowledge and help bring the history to life

Brilliant. Well worth the effort to find out a day when the pumphouse is open and put in the diary. A fascinating insight into local history. Dedicated volunteers run this and deserve support.

The development of industry and the consequent transport requirements in this area make a fascinating study. This pumping station was built to raise water from the river to enable transport via the canal for the local factories during the industrial revolution. Fire, water, steam and massive engineering make this a must-see for those interested in industrial archaeology.
