My sister and I enjoyed a beautifully presented, fresh and delicious afternoon cream tea today. A variety of sandwiches and cakes light as a feather. The hotel staff were pleasant, helpful and intent on giving good service. The building and decorating works below in the foyer in no way encroached on our experience, which we thoroughly enjoyed. A lift is available to the first floor restaurant where the minstrel’s gallery and high ceiling with the grand chandelier make for an interesting and charming environment.

We booked to stay here while we were in Lancaster for a walking holiday. We had seen it was a bit dated online but we're happy to stay due to such a fab location. One of our rooms had rats in the ceiling, we complained and were moved to another room but were told that for our second night the hotel was full and that we would have to stay in the original room. At this we asked for a refund on our second night which we were told had been processed. The staff were very snippy and offered no real appology for this. The refund was never processed. I'm all for dated but for uncleanliness and hygiene I would never stay here again.

Location is central, good access to lots of places. Room size was good. Staff were friendly. In desperate need of a refurbish, which is underway. Bathroom walls were moldy, wallpaper peeling off in the rooms. No air-conditioning so had to open window, but that meant being woken up by sirens and cars honking

The afternoon tea was not very nice. No pride with the chefs. You could tell it was made in advance. Everything was stale. Wouldn't come back unfortunately. The 1 star was for the building being quite remarkable.
