Unless ‘clinically vulnerable’ you can’t get an appointment on the day apparently. Reception staff couldn’t care less, rude on the phone and miserable face to face. The whole point of the extension was more doctors and easier to get an appointment but in reality it’s impossible, no matter how bad symptoms seem to be. Nearly 4 months it’s taken to get a smear appointment too!
My mum saw a very good locum GP and asked for a referral letter so she could go for a private MRI scan after being in such pain for several years. She was told the letter had been done and called in to pick it up. The receptionist said it was in another doctor’s tray to be signed. She couldn’t say whether the doctor whose tray it was in was going to be in next week. My mum asked to speak to someone else or the practice manager and was told there was nobody in as it was Friday afternoon!! This was 2pm!! Does Rise Park Surgery not operate on a Friday afternoon?
Ridiculous. Trying to get appointments is so bad. Walk to the doctors for 8am because couldn’t get through yesterday on the phone, for an appointment for my young son, on arrival greeted by 7 others waiting in a queue outside and they laugh and say ‘hahaha you’ve got no chance’. I don’t go often as don’t need to but do expect to be seen if I do need a doctor.nAnyway - then receive a text message to saynn‘We have received your request for an urgent appointment. This has been triaged by the oncall doctor, and you need to attend the urgent care centre.nWe are prioritising appointments for the most clinically vulnerable and those patients who require continuity from their own GP practice’nnSo, we are not worthy of an appointment at our OWN GP PRACTICE? This has happened way too often for me an my family, what is the point of having a GP practice if you are not in the ‘vulnerable’ or need ‘continuity’ category? Why bother?nWhat else can you do to be seen? And not have to travel to the urgent care centre?
Absolute joke, been having ongoing issues. Waited a month for an appointment was prescribed medication. Issue has got worse now, got up early to call, receptionist stated she would pass the info to a dr. Received a text message advising to contact the pharmacy as they are concentrating on urgent cases. The text referred to one of the things i thought it might be, even though i’m not medically trained and it could be a number of things. Called the pharmacy as feeling too ill go go there. They stated they cannot help me as they cant look at my chest and coughing up green phlegm which would indicate a chest infection or something else. And directed me to the walk in centre. Does not surprise me as the dr always disregards what you tell her anyway. So now i either have to risk my life driving 8 miles as i feel weak, or pay £20 in a taxi. I’ll probably be in safer hands at the walk in centre at least they listen and don’t fob you off.
One star is being generous.... I contacted this surgery to get assistance for my dad whose health was deteriorating before my eyes.. His eyesight, memory & mobility was becoming worse each time i saw him.. I asked for home help or a social carer to call occasionally to keep an eye on him but was refused as they didn't think he met the criteria !!! He ended up having a fall and it was discovered by the paramedics that he had been forgetting to take his medication due to his memory & worsening eyesight.. After being hospitalised for 10 days he was eventually discharged but with a care plan and assistance from adult social care.. He now has help four times a day but it took a hospitalisation to get it... Perhaps if they had listened to the relatives and next of kin who know him best it could and should have all been avoided !! And trying to get past the receptionist to actually talk to a doctor is a challenge in itself. And it gets worse a few weeks on and they refuse to do a home visit for him.. He needed assessing so that he could be referred to a NHS podiatrist but they wouldn't even come out to look at it even though it is potentially gangrene and he's house bound so we've had to go private !!
