Semi-regular since 2013ish. Well kept beer, good quality food in good sized portions, friendly staff, small and cozy, nice beer patio, right next to church bell ringing practice Wed evenings!, background music seems to feature a lot of Rod Stewart. Update Aug2022: the pub has re-furbished its outdoor area, making it bigger and decorating it with white and and pink, installing lots of superb lighting, underneath clear canopies. An amazing environment for summer. Food remains good value and delicious.
Hosted a 30th birthday party for 20 people to have Sunday lunch. Great job, we were all very happy with the service and food. The roasts were delicious and the pub is very comfortable and quaint. Everyone was very impressed. Thank you to Jake especially. Highly recommend for large parties!
Turned up here after a walk. Hadn't booked but we're lucky enough to get a table. Staff are lovely and so accommodating despite being rushed off their feet nothing was too much bother. The Sunday roast was more than adequate and went down a treat. Thanks to all especially the lovely happy lady who sorted our table.
Friendly, local, pub-style stylish. Lovely outside setting. Iocation perfect - centre of the village, opposite the church. This for me is ideal.
Good food and service. Pub was warm, heating was a good temperature. A lot of pubs are not putting their heating on. Great night. Booked again.
Called in for Saturday lunch on the off chance. Very welcoming staff and dog friendly. Good food and service. Will be back.
I went today for a Sunday roast and I was very impressed. I was told the pub did the best roast around the st albans area and I was jot disappointed. The staff were very friendly and I will be back for sure.
Really attractive-looking pub in a lovely location - next to the church and ideal for visiting Heartwood Forest. Only ever visited on a Sunday and, for me, the interior is too dark and the aroma of cooking is too overpowering if you just want a drink. Saying that, the Sunday Roasts look and smell great, but I personally prefer the lighter and more airy feel of The Green Man. Although, again in my opinion, The Queen’s Head does have the better Beer Garden - walled on one side and overlooking the church on the other. Great variety of comfortable outdoor seating and great for people/dog watching.
No fuss, no nonsense Sunday roast. Excellent service. Nice village pub vibe. Dog friendly he was offered some lamb by the landlord, need I say more?
So lucky that this is my local. Food is top notch, service is great and the overall atmosphere of the place means we go back time and time again… they’re also dog friendly!
