Good local beers, friendly staff and food was fantastic. Braised beef delicious, good kids portion too. Location on edge of Dartmoor and close to the A30 means it's a top spot for breaking up longer journeys, after a walk, or if you're lucky enough to live in Cheriton Bishop. Will be back with the family soon. Food & drinks: Lovely food. Lovely beer. Under a lovely thatched pub...
Sylvia is lovely, behind the bar and also served our meal.Roast beef was nicely cooked, lovely roast potatoes, excellent choice of veg, great cauliflower cheese,if any complaint@just this one, would of wished for it to be hot,as was warm. The Apple frangipane tart was lovely. This said,it will not stop me returning, have now been her two times,This is a lovely country village pub, with nice atmosphere, that the owners @staff are working very hard to make a success.
Great place to break your journey west/eastwards! Only just off the main route and with a car park opposite. We had a nice lunch in a great pub atmosphere. Friendly staff and good facilities. Much better than a motorway service station! Will definitely visit again.
Updated review: After a very disappointing previous landlord, followed by a long closure - the pub really warrants a revisit now. New landlords, interior makeover and a promising new menu. The menu itself is small which is a good thing, do a few things well, as opposed to lots of readymade options from the freezer. The burgers we had were freshly made and very good indeed. It's a shame people aren't encouraged to use their carpark though - the front of the pub was blocked by cars despite an empty carpark, making crossing the road quite dangerous and hiding the pub itself!.
Nice friendly pub. Good beer. First time I have been in since the reopening. Will definitely be back.
The host and staff were very welcoming. I sat by the fire and enjoyed an excellent meal. Will be visiting again.Service: 5/5
Lovely meal. Will be back. So nice to have our village pub and restuarant back. Welcome Richard and Kate !
We had pre-booked. The food took over an hour and a half to come out, bearing in mind we were the only people in the pub!! Should've taken the hint! When the food did arrive it was the most underwhelming, overpriced meal I have EVER had. It was edible which is why I have given it 2 stars. I think the waiter who also didn't know what a Guiness and black was, was also 'cooking' A real shame as the pub is beautiful. Poor food, poor service and poor management. Would NOT recommend. I would rather have driven another 20 miles and found somewhere decent. Response to comment of management: 1. If you are silly enough to think I would ever want to return you are sorely mistaken. 2. Pretty poor practice to be so unprofessional in a response like this. 3. I note I’m not the only one who has given a bad review. Perhaps a time to look inward and make some improvements rather that getting shirty and trying to make out the customer is in the wrong. 4 There were 12 other people in the party that can corroborate my review, and that I have told about your response.
Not great, the staff were very nice but unfortunately the food was not great. Don’t buy the scampi and chips, was obviously cooked from frozen, the chips were not great either. Their menu was from the world but expected British pub food. The mushroom starter was nice but let down by the main, prices are too high for the quality of food. I as a Londoner felt very let down. Drinks were good but again not what I expected especially as recommended while on a staycation. You need to do better.
We stopped off here on our way to Cornwall. We didn't want to stop off at the usual service station for bland, fast food. A quick Google search for a nearby pub serving food and up popped The Old Thatch Inn. We ordered a West Country burger, a southern fried chicken burger and a 12" Margarita pizza for our 2 children to share, plus a side of onion rings. All very tasty and good portion sizes. Service was excellent too. Will definitely visit again on our way to a Cornwall holiday.
