Reviewed as the pub / bar. Lovely decor and lighting. Comfy chairs and excellent bar man. Very fine draught Kronenbourg I wonder if the hotel isn’t open any longer they should change the name slightly. I didn’t come in earlier in the day because I thought it was only a hotel- someone mentioned when I asked that it had a bar. Much better than the Premier Inn bar
RUDE STAFF. Stayed overnight. I felt really unwell in the morning and had a broken ankle from the night before just to top it off. we came down stairs and sat in the bar area. I felt so ill, that i partly layed down for a second on the sofa and the rudest member of staff came over and said this "can you sit up, your making the place look untidy" ‐------------------------------------------------------- It's disgusting how she treated us! THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! If she was my employee she would be fired, no hesitation.
Tom and his staff run a top quality pub. Great range of ales including some from the award winning Exeter Brewery which is less than 500m away - went in for one but stayed for three! Keep up the good work guys!
Hotel needs serious makeover in bedrooms. Staff lovely and Indian restaurant there great addition. Bar is traditional ale drinkers one which I liked . V budget digs and would not return until rooms sorted!
The place continues to pride itself on its fantastic Real Ales and the staff are great but I've been going to The Great Western Hotel for over 15 years and the place is a shadow if it's former self far less Ales on offer which I get in these difficult times for the pub trade.There used to be exerllent bar meals too before the restraunt changed to an Indian which is now closed, though I've never tried it.The interior has been nicely furnished but other than that the place seems to be standing still.That said it's a place I always want to visit when I'm in Exeter.
Use of the Locomotive Bar only, did not stay at hotel. The reception by the lady looking after the bar was excellent, very friendly and welcoming. The bar itself is ok and the toilet facilities were very good, clean Nd tidy vi would certainly recommend this place for a quiet drink whilst waiting for your train at Exeter St David's.
If you're desperate to get your head down and the premier inn across the road is fully booked then this is the place for you. It's not particularly clean, though it is quiet maybe due to the lack of guests I didn't eat here as I arrived after the kitchen was closed and they stopped serving breakfast at 9am if I recall The kebab van in the car park was pretty good though.
Fantastic friendly place. Bar is a must try atmospheric cosy experience with a great choice of ales. And fantastic adjoining restaurant! Fully kitted out for a safe welcoming experience. Best Indian food in the south west. Give it a try!
After being booked to stay here through work, I was expecting the worst after reading some of the reviews. Yes, it does still need work doing and those works are currently on going. With new beds already in the rooms. My stay was very comfortable. Breakfast was good and the hostess Donna at breakfast was a ray of sunshine with a warm, pleasant and welcoming attitude. I would stay here again!
This hotel was perfect accommodation for our lads night away. Convenient location. Fairly cheap and breakfast in the morning. However the whole hotel was in need of a major revamp, rooms were tired and way too hot overnight. Brilliant for the weekend. Wouldn't take the family to it.
