Nice that the ponies etc like to roam around the site. Some lovely pubs within driving distance too. Could only find one elsan in operation which was a fair hike to find.
I loved this campsite. It was the perfect stop off on my walk. The facilities are basic, there's no showers, but thats noted on their website. Apart from that, it has everything you need. The facilities are ageing but clean. And the rangers/wardens not sure what you call them walking about a couple of times was good to see. I camped in a tent, and the centre area with no vehicle access was just what I wanted, which gave me the feeling of being a bit wild. I particularly enjoyed watching two young cows that looked like they were up to something mischievous, as i brewed my morning coffee. I also enjoyed the half 7 donkey alarm clock. It was quite amusing that its braying started bang on 7:30. Then, as I left to carry on my journey, the herd of tiny new forest ponies that were grazing along the acces route. Will very likely visit again.
Nice campsite in relaxed setting in the heart of the New forest. Lots of space and great walks. The facilities are quite good with 1 large block of toliets with hot water for washing. Fantastic for wildlife including deer, ponies and donkeys. Good prices and overall great value.
Great campsite in a beautiful, quite location with great cycling, walks and wildlife. We are tent campers and it feels like the site is more suited to campervan and caravans. The ground is very rocky and rock pegs are essential. Staff were very friendly and the facilities are clean.
On the site of the old WW2 airfield RAF Stoney Cross. Lots of space to camp, not herded into a tight pitch. Toilets and hand basins, yes, but no showers or electric, so best if you're self contained . Fallow deer stay on the site, plus shetland ponies, New Forest ponies and donkeys...the latter being very curious/naughty. But DON'T FEED THEM! Or else, aside from a fine, they'll never leave you in peace. Dogs on leads OK. Decent 4G signal onO2. Recently added a small shop at Reception plus free phone charging.
I spent one night there, arriving just before dusk on a Bikepacking trip around the New Forest. My tags were ready to pick up and the office was closed but that was fine, the instructions were relatively clear! Ponies, cows, horses roam freely through the campsite which is organised into a few different sections. There are plenty of places to dispose of rubbish, and the campsite was clean. The toilets were clean, stocked and well lit, and there was hot running water. Note, and it is clear on their website, that there are no showers.
Great site. Lovly staff. Lots and lots of hard standings seem to be more taylored to caravans but does have grassy areas for tents and camping only areas. Can sometimes hear the main motoway but not too bad. Good phone signal. Toilets are outdated but perfectly clean and fully functional. For the price this campsite is great! Would return.
Would have been 5 stars if they'd had showers. Would also of stayed longer than 6 days if they'd had showers. Apart from that, great campsite, friendly staff. Would return.Service: 5/5
Wow, this has to be one of the best campsites down south. Toilets and clean drinking water on site only. But the scenery certainly makes up for this.Rooms: 5/5
Edit- Camped again in summer season. Busier but still plenty of space. More areas to camp in. Bit of background noise from A31 but still a great location. Dog friendly and doesn't charge extra for dogs unlike other campsites now which is good. Lovely campsite, loads to explore. Camped for one night. Limited area open for camping at that time. Previous reviews mention poor staff attitude but I didn't experience this.
