Booked for Sunday lunch, and arrived for our table at 5.15pm. Told Sunday lunch had finished at 5, and they wouldn’t want to serve food that wasn’t fresh. Whilst we were a bit disappointed I thought that rationale was spot on. Ordered from the main menu steak and ale pie and a veggie lasagne and both were good examples of home-cooked meals. Forgot to take pics of the food, so you’ll have to take my word for it!! The decor and ambience are chilled, relaxing, and a perfectly nice place to spend a couple of Sunday evening hours. The staff are super friendly and very accommodating. Best of all, it is dog friendly! For me this is 5* for what it is - a typical Sunday pub dinner with reasonable prices and no expectation of fine dining etc.
A better than average pub in Bury St Edmunds. Staff are friendly and there's a decent selection of beers on tap. The staff are generally friendly as well, it's dog friendly and there's a big, covered area outside that's heated if you fancy a drink and it's a bit busy in the fairly small bar. The food is fairly good, but not exceptional for the price. Overall a solid enough place for a pint or a pub meal and better than the "standard" greene kings in town.
Very nice pub not far from the town centre and market place. You might not realise it's there but only a 2 minute walk down Whiting street. Very good food menu and a good selection of real ales. It's not huge inside but does have outdoor seating when the weather is nice. The staff were friendly, attentive and efficient.
Popped in here for a spot of lunch and It was amazing, lovely food and great customer service
Couldn't fault the food, it was really nice, and well cooked.
Great atmosphere, full of local people and visitors. Fantastic undercover courtyard which was very buzzy. Great selection on the menu - brilliant food and great staff. What more could you ask for? Highly recommended if you're ever in Bury St Edmunds.
Nov 2022 Popped in for a closing drink after a meal out with colleagues on a Tuesday evening. It was quiz night & the answers were being given out as we arrived. Sounded like it would be a challenging quiz. Good atmosphere.
A warm, welcoming pub in the heart of Bury St. Edmunds. The building itself dates back to the 16th century and is a pleasure to visit. Didn't try the food, but staff knew what was on offer and were happy to give some guidance. They were also friendly and attentive. Pub was clean with strong consideration for COVID standards. Thanks!
Proper pub with a good range of ales and lager. The menu has a great choice to suit most. Friendly no fuss staff in a clean well presented atmosphere.
Came for lunch on Sat. Food , drink , prices and service good for a busy pub . Only disappointment was two of us ordered scotch egg starter and expected them to be hot but they weren't. Not the same cold
