"We have recently taken over this proper Cornish pub serving local real ales. We are planning lots of music and pop-up street-food events in the pub and beer garden ahead of our huge refurb in 2019 which will include letting rooms and full working kitchen ready for Summer. Pop in for some quality beer and banter and watch the pub evolve on Facebook @thekingsheadchacewater."

Not somewhere I would stay again. Tom The manager tried his best to make us feel welcome and keep everything running but his chef left the week before we arrived so there were no evening meals or cooked breakfast available. The pub is run down. The rooms are old fashioned and smelled musty. They were not the cleanest either. Things were missing, broken etc and the tea bags looked like they had been their for months. They didn't service the rooms very well, we had to ask them to empty our bins twice and replenish the milk, coffee and sugar in the rooms. Breakfast on the first day was booked for 9:30am but no one was even up. I had to phone the pub in order to alert someone that we were waiting. I'm afraid its a dying or dead place. Won't be around for long.
Recently stayed here for the night while working in the area. Very friendly local pub feel about the place and proper home made food aswel. The mixed grill was the biggest and best I've ever had. If I'm in the area again then I'll definitely be back.Rooms: 5/5
We popped in for a drink and a bite to eat just before Christmas. Two of us and our dog, we were made to feel extremely welcome and the atmosphere was very friendly all round. The food was good, honest pub grub and very reasonably priced. A proper 'local' Service: 5/5
Bed comfy, room clean, but that's it. All downhill from here I'm afraid. Room was sold to me as an en suite, but shower and toilet are in the corridor, not the room. No cold water from the sink, cant get the kettle under the other tap that worked! Pub smells of smoke and has an overall grubby feel to it. Very limited food choice and very poor breakfast. Think I'd prefer the 3 hour drive home, than stay next time!
Stayed here on Wednesday night 15/03/23, arrived to the location pub smelled badly of smoke and wet dog as well as the dog running around barking at people as you come in not exactly welcoming. Was told I had a shower in my room but when I arrived it was in the hall way as well as the toilet, which was all shared by other guests that had left it in a state so I could not get a shower. The bedroom was filthy and I mean filthy, my bed had someone's else's hair all over it including what looked like someone's actual hair strands from a women clearly. The bed was badly stained if it was actually a stain, but the bed it's self was disgusting, TV didn't work, floors moved when people walked in the next room , dogs barking all night long. Never ever ever again would I waste my money on staying here, had the worst night sleep I have ever had as could barely sleep thinking about the fact I was sleeping in a dirty bed for a start. Absolutely foaming DO NOT USE THIS PLACE, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Tom is the new recent landlord , who has taken over. We paid a few visits while on holiday. We wish we had this found this pub earlier in our holiday. The chef was lovely, food was excellent Very friendly service throughout Would recommend
Room was dirty. Beers prices over £5 a pint. Only toast and cereal for breakfast. Stayed 12 months ago and such a shame its gone so downhill in such a short time. Rear garden had litter lying all over the place. Very disappointing.Rooms: 1/5
Room was not very clean shower tray was dirty and bathroom ceiling was peeling paint. No food due to chef being ill, no breakfast surely someone could of cooked a simple breakfast waiting on a agency chef, stayed there 12 months ago and it really has gone down hillRooms: 1/5
Walked in with some friends and had the most unwelcoming of service. Pub owner was very disrespectful and tutted at us as soon as we came through the door. We came in to buy some soft drinks and sat at a quiet table in the corner while the pub owner kept walking up to us questioning why we were there and constantly being watched and told to buy more drinks or we had to leave. We felt really uncomfortable the whole time and would not recommend to anyone!!
Went in with small group of friends for some soft drinks. Found the staff to be most unwelcoming to the younger members of our group demanding to see id's even tho they were ordering soft drinks and pushing us to buy more or be kicked out. Do not recommend to anyone going with under 18's
