Found this from the reviews on Google whilst driving back from Penzance to St Austell. Really glad we did! Food was lovely but the staff were exceptionally welcoming and friendly. We arrived at 5pm and food doesn’t start till 6pm so we got a drink and the bar staff sorted us a table most tables had been reserved and we settled down for a game of cards before ordering. It’s a tiny place but very warm and welcoming. Hubby ordered fish and chips and I had the stake and ale pie based on others reviews and both were really tasty and very filling! Excellent prices .. two Meals and two drinks £36. We only had card but asked how to include a tip as service was so good and we were advised to round it up to whatever we felt which we did! Not the best photos as I was starving and forgot to take them before we started! 100% recommend if your in Cornwall.
Small country pub. Easy parking. Penzance Brewery ales on handpump. Good food menu with choice of veg included. Extremely helpful and pleasant service. Good value for good quality. Recommended.
It's a small friendly pub with great staff. It's advised that you book as the dining area is quite compact. The food is superbly cooked and well presented. There is also a decent range of drinks. Had a lovely sirloin, and the garlic bread comes highly recommended
Cosy pub. Stopped for a drink but we didn’t eat. Would have been nice to try out. Pubs as they should be.
This is a lovely pub in the centre of a lovely village. It is clearly very popular even at lunchtimes mid-week so booking is recommended. There is a car park adjacent to the pub but if full then there is roadside parking. The pub has lots of character and the staff are very welcoming. The menu on their website was up-to-date and there is also a 'specials' board with many other tempting options. I had the scallops with chorizo in a creamy sauce as a starter and it was amazing. My wife and I went for the medley of fillets of simply grilled fish for our mains. They were served with seasonal vegetables and a choice of potatoes. I had the Dauphinoise potatoes which which as also delicious. This pub is a little off the beaten track but the quality of food and service ensures that this pub will always be busy and I'm sure that it is also well serviced by the local village. Fantastic!! We shall be returning.
Good food, excellent unfussy service but very pleasant, attentive and efficient despite being very busy . So good to find a'proper pub' that also does very good fresh food
We had a splendid meal in a village pub with plenty of pleasant atmosphere and very pleasant and affable staff. We enjoyed it so much that we booked a table for Friday evening
Great evening had by all, amazing food with excellent service from friendly staff. Looking forward to our next visit.
Not somewhere I'd describe as cheap, but well presented meals, filling, with a good selection of drinks. Classic Cornish pub, friendly service and a warm atmosphere. Went for the gammon special, thick cut, very much enjoyed - if a little salty. The game pie special was also had by another in the party and highly recommended. Note: dog friendly! Many lovely small dogs and puppies in there when we went on a Thursday evening.
Fabulous ! Lovely old traditional pub serving first class food and a very good selection of well kept real ales. Very friendly efficient staff and very pleasant local people. We ate twice in a week after finding it while on holiday.
