Great pub and restaurant. Excellent beer selection and good honest pub food. On top of local cask ales; Quite a few different Belgium and German beers. There is a large beer garden split over multiple levels. One area is built to be like sitting on a wooden sailing ship. Would recommend booking in advance if planning on having a meal, especially if looking to visit over the weekend.
Friendly staff, drinks at sensible prices with a Restaurant area that was not open the evening of our visit. Was shown a Menu which had a good selection as well as the Daily Specials.Set at the top of Upnor High St with Upnor Castle very close, also overlooking the river Medway and the Historic Dockyard .Well worth a visit. A nice bonus is the nearby Free car park with a 20 Hour Limit.
Great selection of beer, lovely people behind the bar and friendly service. Amazing garden for families it's a dream place. Dog friendly and the locals seem like lovely people too. I would definitely go again, I've highlighted my thoughts below. The service at the bar was incredibly Slow and drinks were expensive. There was clearly a rush of people before we got there and it seemed a bit of a clean up mission in the bar. I totally respect that, just for us, it was incredibly slow and we'd been walking for a while. 15 minutes, with 3 staff and about 6 customers, we were a bit confused and just waited patiently to be served. Starters: We had the halloumi fries and pate for starters. £7 for deep fried halloumi I thought was pretty steep, literally done like chips, no breadcrumbs or coating, no flavour at all, over cooked. The pate was standard pate and OK priced. Roast: The roast pork we both had it had no seasoning and was a pretty fatty cut. I'd expect to see some kind of charred edge but it was very lacking, unsure if this had been roasted or boiled, on a plus, it was moist. Veggies were in abundance and done to perfection! Cauliflower cheese was extra nearly £4!! was nice and cauliflower had a little bit left in it which is always good, For just shy of £11 quid, I will return. It's a bit KFF/brakes dressed up posh with nice DECENT veggies. That all being said, I think it was a great place and nice people, the veggies and presentation was Brill.
Lovely pub in a beautiful area. We ate here on Easter Sunday and it was really nice. Roast beef was so tender and the lamb shank fell off the bone. The cauliflower cheese was amazing as well...... prices are great and the staff were really friendly. Will be returning very soon!
Well what can I say all I can say is you can see the result in the photos first time since before the pandemic me and my good friend have been out to visit a pub for lunch again and all I could say about this meal that came to our table today is WOW! 10/10 all the way the food was absolutely amazing not a single fault with any of it and me and my friend thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it the most enjoyable atmosphere and as for the food it self was worth every penny of the 45 pound we paid for it and I can see why this is such a popular eatery where many people visit well you will not be disappointed with this pub in Upper upnor and it was worth every penny and the journey to visit here today thankyou so much to the much talented chefs who cook this tremendous food for me and my friend today and thankyou to the 2 lovely young ladies for the professional fast and polite service we received today we was very impressed with the service we received today thankyou again to all of you for a wonderful lunch today we shall certainly be returning absolutely thankyou.
Love going to this pub, the atmosphere is brilliant and the food is proper pub grub, I had the Liver and Bacon with mash potatoes, top notch!!
We had a wonderful meal here with some friends. Delicious food, huge portions, sensible prices and friendly, helpful service. Pretty much perfect!
Friendly helpful staff. It has a lot of potential. The bar is very charming. The restaurant section has character and a good layout. The food was disappointing. The duck was over cooked, but the vegetables were plentiful. Extra points for the heritage carrots. The decor is very worn. I could see this would be a lovely place in summer to sit outside. Dog friendly.
Such a beautiful location for a wonderful pub. Lots of variety of beers and a lovely garden. Tucked away from the busier part of lower upnor so really excellent and will definitely visit again. While you’re there check out the cottages nearby. Beautiful
Good beer and good food. An excellent place to rest up and have a beer. Lovely rear garden for the kids to play in, in the warmer weather
