Story

The Iyengar Yoga Institute Maida Vale is London’s original Iyengar yoga centre. We’ve been welcoming new students and experienced practitioners for more than thirty years, since B.K.S. Iyengar first taught classes here.

Located in Maida Vale, ten minutes from central London, the Institute is open daily, from early in the morning until late at night. We offer more than fifty classes a week, catering for all levels from complete beginners to more advanced practitioners, in award-winning bright, spacious studios.

As a charity, we’re run on a not-for-profit basis with a commitment to offer affordable yoga to students of all ages.

This yoga style is safe for all ages and the best training not to make any damage to your body. All the explanations are so deep and precise. All teaches are exceptionally experienced. I learn from many them different details that make me understand my body better. Absolutely must to maintain healthy spine, joints and treat misalinments.
I have rediscovered the studio after Covid and this is now the only place I want to go to for proper yoga. The setting is unique, it feels like a sanctuary where you come to nurture your body and calm your mind while connecting to nature. The style of practice is very structured, focusing on the perception of your body alignment. It works for me with little flexibility and middle age stiffness but I see that it works for much younger and older students. Very inclusive place. The resulting feeling of ease and peace after a class is in the end what it is all about. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to invest in their wellbeing and find balance.
I always loved this place, I left it when I got pregnant, but then when I learned that there was a special class for pregnant women, I started back and it was a good time, especially the teacher Rita was great, she was very helpful, her speech, her soft touches, I really liked her and after the class is over, there is tea time, there are special treats for pregnant women such as tea, nuts and fruits. Everyone should really try this place while chatting, it’s very clean, everyone who works there is polite and friendly.
Good. One male teacher is very good The female teachers from what I have experienced are not good , They are reluctant to help you improve and don’t assist you when you need help especially with being in a beginners class so overall yes good but teachers teaching could be better and are letting the whole place down . Completely lowers confidence level to being able to do the asana in class with unhelpful and unassisting teachers And the classes are over packed and do not provide much space to do the postures
No way to give less than 5 stars to this amazing a powerful Yoga Dham in central London. The volunteers and staff run the place with great care. Mr Iyengar himself was here and every teacher embodies Iyengar Yoga with elegance and passion. The introductory 6 lesson course is so well designed that I am doing it for a second time!.
My favourite yoga studio that I cannot recommend enough. Tranquil, friendly, professional and welcoming - a true gem that I and many others treasure. Kristyan is a fantastic teacher whose talent, kindness and experience makes for the perfect instructor.
A deeply impressive yoga studio. They have two rooms there, one of which with direct sunlight and design that connects you with the greens outside. The lady at the front is kind and helpful. Classes are often packed so be prepared and come early if possible. Some teachers are better than others, but in general the Beginners classes are very good.
Beautiful space to learn Iyengar Yoga. Light, warm and airy with sounds of nature from the park behind.
I really like Stuart Miller’s classes! This is a lovely place to practice. They have mats but I would recommend bringing your own.
A safe haven. A beautiful, serene space with great, well-trained teachers. I call this place the Oxford of Yoga, as all the teachers are incredibly highly qualified. Special mentions go to the wonderful Ainhoa Acosta & Khaled Kenddi.
