I love coming here it is absolutely beautiful. Staff are friendly and kind. You can tour the castle with the purchase of a ticket if you want the history, but admission to the cafe/ giftshop is free. I recommend you visit the small gift shop and enjoy the cafe. Atmosphere is warm and relaxed with local art displayed in the cafe, a large old fireplace and great coffee. Allergies: Heads up that for the cake and coffee options they have gone nut free and that the only gluten free option is now a flapjack. They are open that they have a small kitchen and cannot guarantee for celiacs . They serve a great chamomile tea in a cute little teapot for my herbal tea loving ppl.
Very historic and educational. Lovely friendly staff and a nice place to have a cuppa. There's a Giftshop and an honesty bookshop in the front garden at the bottom of the steps.
To be honest, if it's wasn't for rain it would have been a great journey, buses here takes hours to come, plan your journey, remember bus 39A only goes to Hay castle on Sunday. Once you get to Hereford train station, head over to the bus station for X44nBe mindful of the train time specifically when going back to Hereford from HaynThey don't come very often.
If you into Hay on Wye from the correct angle the castle appears as if by magic. It’s beautiful even if you don’t. The bookshop always has new and interesting finds when we visit. The only down side is that our food allergies prevent us from enjoying the cafe inside, but it smells delicious.nnThere’s always people moving through the castle, and the staff are always friendly. The tour is fascinating if you like local history and if you sit in the main area you can hear the locals talking it from when they were children which just adds to the atmosphere.nnIf you have arthritis like me it can be a bit difficult to walk around, it is an old castle, but worth the effort if you can spare a good movement day. The area alone is breathtaking - we’ve been in June and November.
A lovely castle, we were met with a warm welcome from the friendly staff. Lovely exhibitions and a wander around the castle and grounds.nnThe cafe is a gem, staff friendly and welcoming. The food is freshly made, delicious and high quality.nnHighly recommend.
