I understand that the place is being slowly renovated so the pealing wallpaper wasn't a big deal and the ancient shower water heater thing that was difficult to work and would randomly change from hot water to cold water was...tolerable. The dark mildew on the shower curtain and all over the bathroom was less tolerable. The breakfast that was included in the stay was great. Lots of continental and hot options made fresh for each person. The dinner we paid for in the bar/restaurant was just OK. It was busy, but it took a long time for anyone to even bring us a drink. All in all a mediocre experience.
We stayed here for a night as bike packers, the staff were absolutely brilliant, the rooms huge and to a very high standard and spotlessly clean. Had a nice meal in the rest. I can't recommend the hotel enough! 5 stars all the way Rooms: Very large and luxurious

Came here last week for a meal with my wife usually food is to a high standard but on this occasion with below standard I got the soup to start with which was ok a bit tasteless then I ordered the steak pie with chips and puff pastry the puff pastry was like a piece off cardboard inedible was like frosen pastry but when the waiter said how was your food I did mention this and he said my mum was in last week and said the same thing I still will give this another go but it must improve back to the old standards

Just there for food. Service was slow, despite many staff. Seemed to have great challenges helping a friend with simple allergy advice. Seems to ‘act’ like a restaurant, when in reality the food is very standard pub grub.Service: 2/5
Excellent service. Clean room with a comfy bed. Lovely breakfast. Great little pub with a fireplace and locals having a laugh. We spent one night and were sad to leave our newly made friends behind, but we had to continue our journey north. xxRooms: 5/5
One of the best stays we have had. Comfy bed + clean room. Served with a lovely breakfast. Very accommodating as well. The bar and restaurant serves great food + drinks. Its near a wonderful eco walk too.Rooms: 5/5
Went for a family Christmas dinner last Thursday evening. Such a lovely night. Our table near the roaring fire, the beautiful food and the friendly staff and manager all added to a special evening for myself, my sister and my mum and dad.Rooms: 5/5
