We were slightly worried by some of the reviews we saw about the staff here but our experience was fantastic. I can not speak highly enough of the staff. They were extremely welcoming and they went above and beyond as they sorted out a plan for us to be able to get off sight early the next morning as the main gain is locked until 8am and we needed to go before then. I could not thank them enough for this. They also gave us information about the local pub and a map to a waterfall. To me this campsite is a hidden gem, sitting in a serene area in the peace and quiet it felt like we were away from everything. We will definitely be returning.
Stayed in August 2022 and it was fab!! Cant speak highly enough of the lovely staff christine especially. I am very hard to please in regards of cleanliness but it was fantastic. The toilets, showers and other facilities were well taken care of and clean. All the facilities were really handy, water, fridge / freezers, sinks etc. Great place for younger children ours were 5 and 4months old. Lots of space for the baby to crawl around and our daughter loved the lake, play area and rocky hills to climb. Loads of other kids too to play with. As for the older kids space us great. We were slightly concerned about reviews regarding all the rules but actually it makes for a very safe environment and we were glad of the quiet time come 10.30pm. Visiting wastwater is a must and it's only around 15mins away, as is scarfell. We are hoping to return every year and making it a family tradition. Definitely visit especially if you are new to camping
Amazing campsite. Please ignore the most recent bad reviews I would even question their legitimacy. The staff are lovely, we had numerous questions about the local area and they were super friendly and helpful every time. Providing directions and even a map to a local waterfall for us. The site is spotless and facilities are fab. Yes you have to pay for the showers but they are spotlessly clean just remember to bring a couple of pound. The skies are amazing, I've never seen so many stars and well worth just sitting and appreciating the view. Rules are enforced and no loud noise or lights after 10.30 which with having 3 young children was fab. It's lovely and quiet and we were all able to sleep in until 9 o'clock, a nice change from our usual 6.30 wake up! If you want to sit up all night drinking and playing loud music this isn't the camp site for you but it you want a lovely, clean, quiet, family friendly camp site this is the place to go!
Great Campsite, clean facilities with really friendly staff. We arrived having forgotten the tent poles for one of our tents and they couldn’t be more helpful, lending us some they had in their barn. Kids loved exploring and the fire pit and we loved having them to ourselves with no signal for phone distraction. For star gazers, or anyone who needs a late night wee, on a clear night the view of the stars is INCREDIBLE.
Just come back today from 2 days camping. The staff were very friendly and helpful on arrival. They a couple of questions regarding the size of the tent any kids etc. Pointed out the facilities and then gave us a great place to pitch. It was the summer holidays, so a lot of kids, however, you didn't feel overrun and there was plenty of space considering it was busy. I think they tried to keep families together and couples in a different zone. But that is an assumption based on observation. Facilities were plenty and never had to cue for anything. The water pressure was good and warm. Very clean, with options to let you maintain this too. Freezer for ice packs, mobile phone chargers £1 hour, showers was clean £1 for 4 minutes, the shower is set at a wide spray is can be difficult to get hose the tuff bits . The fire pits are a good idea, and you can get wood from the reception. Some did seem a little randomly placed and you might struggle to work the tent around them. But we were fine. Kids area looked good, pubd 5 mind walk but you can't book at it does fill up. The menu at the Charles isn't great but after a long walk, I didn't care and tasted good. The campsite did settle down after 10 and was quiet so you will get a peaceful sleep, bar the odd bark, and mad owl. I'd return, and if it was the summer holidays then would choose this as an option due to the size and the quite time being adhered to.
Beautiful camp site! Staff are lovely, very friendly and always happy to help. Facilities are very clean. Great for kids and families. We loved it here and would highly recommend.
very nice and well organized campsite with a cozy atmosphere. the sanitary facilities are very comfortable and the freezers available are handy. the owners were very friendly and helped me where possible. Also a wonderful base for walking. Waste is not sorted and that feels a bit strange. in short, a great place to come back again.
Great campsite with good clean facilities despite staff letting it down, a rude strict welcome after a long drive. They enjoy enforcing lights off and no noise at 10:30 which makes you feel like a child. They are rude during these interactions and enjoy implying if you had a good night the morning after. It's a lovely campsite we've been coming for now 18 years and would hate to have to change the tradition we have in our family. A suggestion is separating the camp into an adult and family sections, with probably a larger family area but with a secluded adult area it would meet the wants and needs of different groups and reduce the unwanted interactions that neither the campers or staff want. Thank you
Great campsite. Very friendly staff. Arrived and was given the choice of where I wanted to pitch and told where all the facilities where. Staff where keen to tell the noisy bunch of teenage lads next to us to be quiet at 10:30 which we were glad about. We will definitely be returning! Also good that you can pay by card for wood etc and you don't get charged for the transaction
Great location and the fire pits are great. However I didn’t like having to pay for showers and charging on top, when I’ve already paid for the campsite. Also the welcome was a bit intense, to the point of not really welcome. There are a lot of rules about what you’re allowed to do and not allowed to do. They’re on signs everywhere and the staff start reeling them off to you as you arrive. It made feel a bit unwelcome. Hence losing a star for each.
