Visited the zoo then the pub. Website says to book but you actually can't when you message on Facebook and their phone number says we won't answer. Odd little side room quite horrid setting. Food was very economy compared to many other pubs that we have visited over the years. For 10 pounds per heard for basically cafe food although the pie was the only highlight for a shepherd Neame pub well below the usual standard for the money.
Visited with a friend and our Kids. We saw the animals and then had a roast in the canteen. Unfortunately the pub was booked for a function but that was fine. The food was lovely and hot and the kids loved the park. Great would visit again x
You know the zoo is lovely, it's a shame that when I visited the pub was shut. I had been hoping for a bit of a cosy pub lunch then a mooch through the zoo but the new cafe was ok. Food looked lovely coming out but it wasn't the same.
Quick nice service, good food, reasonable prices. Lots of sitting places inside the zoo but some outside for customers not visiting zoo. I was impressed by the egg - well cooked and the yolk was orange like from my grandma's hens. Good quality ham but served cold! Ham and egg as well as hamburger served with no side salad, just chips. Kids enjoyed their nuggets with chips and sweetcorn; they also ate garlic bread so I assume it was tasty. Chicken goujones well cooked. My husband wasn't very happy with his burger. Good choice of local bear, nice and cold. No inside dining allowed and outside you can always find people smoking next to you. But we enjoyed the dinner. We were lucky to get one of the two roofed tables to hide from the sun. Lots of parking spaces - if the main park is full, there's another 2 min walk away.
Visited yesterday with 3 young children all between the age of 1 and 3 years. They all loved the zoo, it is perfect for that age range, small enough that the walking is manageable for them, good accessibility to viewing points so they could see the animals. The oldest also really enjoyed the park. It is just a shame that we had to cut our trip short. We decided to go for some food at about 12:30, by the time our party had all decided what we wanted from the menu it was just before 1pm. We get in the queue which is long and not really moving but that’s ok, it’s peak time and to be expected. After about 5 minutes standing in the queue someone comes out and yells kitchen closed for the next hour, no food from 1-2pm due to a party. At this point we have 3 starving children who could not wait until gone 2pm for their lunch. It meant we had to leave much before we had planned. I understand that things like this happen and it’s better for them to be honest than keep taking orders they can’t keep up with. My problem is it came without warning, if someone had told us on entrance or if there had been signs around to pre-warn, we would have made sure to order food earlier so we could have continued to enjoy our afternoon. I’m sure we weren’t the only ones in this boat considering most people were visiting with children and I don’t know many children who will happily wait over an hour for food. All in all the zoo is lovely but take a picnic because its not guaranteed food will be available.
Lovely pub with good range of food, visited the little conservation zoo behind which we’ve wanted to visit for years. Really friendly team of staff in both venues as owned and managed by the same people. The zoo is perfect if you want a small easy walk. Great for youngsters. Really nice day out and super cheap. Will definitely visit again.
Well being a local resident we brought our family here to support this local business. We were very disappointed. Booked for 10 people in the pub, we were taken into a cold hall like room which looked more like a cafe than a pub. The acoustics were very bad and struggled to hear each other. We were stopped at the zoo entrance by a member of staff who told us that the pub was not open due to staffing. I suggested that maybe a phone call to any bookings would have been nice as we would probably not have attended and gone to another pub for food. We stayed as we had two young hungry children and was very very disappointed with the tastless bland cold food that was delivered. What a shame I was so disappointed, gave some constructive feedback to the manager as it would be nice to see this business flourish. He drinks were taken off the price of the bill. Until such time as the pub is re opened and the food temperature is adjusted we will not be supporting this local pub. The children's meals came out after the first member of the party had finished their food.
Had an amazing meal at the Fenn Bell this evening. Group of 8 and every single dish for all of us was extremely tasty huge portions and served all at the same time. Lovely friendly staff who were very attentive and professional. Definitely will go back and certainly recommend
Great respect for the staff dealing with some awful customers! First of all I'd like to highlight how calm and collected the receptionist stayed whilst she was subjected to a tirade of disgusting foul language for something that was totally out of her control from parents of birthday party no less, classy!. She kept her cool and still found time to help us get a table in the pub whilst or daughter was on her lunch break from her keeper day. My daughter had the best day with Amy who was very friendly and knowledgeable, she got to feed kids of animals and was very excited by the end of it. Food is okay, pretty much what I expect from a busy pub and reasonably priced. Only knocked a star off because the overflow car park resembled the Somme in 1916; I think they need some hard standing out there!
Just visited. The zoo was lovely separate to the pub but the pub was disappointing. We had been told it was great with good food…. We were sat in a cold extension and hadn’t even taken our coats off before being asked what we wanted as we needed to order quick as they needed the table back. We ordered. 45 minutes later we still had no food, it came eventually but so did the other people that had booked the table - so we had to eat under pressure with no time for the kids ice cream, we were handed the bill while my one year old was still eating. Toilets had no soap. If visiting we would eat in the zoo canteen as the food is all the same anyway!
