The Daffodil Hotel (previously known as the Waterside Hotel) is located in Grasmere in the English Lake District. The hotel has undergone a major refurbishment throughout 2011 and 2012 and re-opened in July 2012.

The Daffodil has 78 rooms and suites all beautifully appointed by Interior Designer Paul Sawford, featuring bespoke carpets and indulgent colours inspired by Fibbonaci. We have a fantastic lake view restaurant led by our Executive Chef and a fabulous Germaine De Capuccini Spa and thermal pool. We stayed for a few nights for a break away. The location is superb and just a short walk into Grasmere. The room was fantastic and we had everything we needed. The Spa facilities were excellent and not overcrowded at all. The food was fantastic and the staff were polite and helpful. Electric vehicle charging points are available and we used whilst staying but bring your own charging cable as they are not fast chargers and be prepared to put an app on your phone to use them. A great stay, thanks very much and hope to come and stay again in the future.
My wife and I spent Easter here for 3 nights and had afternoon tea with some family that had driven down from Scotland for the day.nThis was our second visit as we stayed here in 2017 for 2 nights while on a road trip through the UK. Sadly, it looks as if the hotel has not changed at all since then. The decor, carpets, paint, and furnishings all appear to be exactly the same as our last visit. The sofas in the lounge were very uncomfortable as they've never been replaced in many years. They had lost all their support. The same could be said for the ones in our junior suit£300+ per night.nnThe beds are in desperate need of replacement simply down to wear and tear. The curtains in our room had holes in them, the shower had mould and the shower head kept coming out from the hose. We complained about the latter and they did sort this very quickly, though,nnThe bar downstairs had all the lights on but was not functional. You had to go to the 1st floor lounge/bar for a drink. During the weekend, the weather was lovely and people started to sit outside a bit. Even then we had to go to the 1st floor bar to order a drink and then carry it down and outside ourselves.nnThis nicely brings me onto the staff. The majority are miserable as sin. This is most likely that they are putting in so many hours as they are horribly short staffed. Some staff did make an effort to make you feel welcomed and were incredibly helpful. Moses on the front desk gave us great recommendations for hikes and was also the one who got the shower in our room sorted.nnIn the lounge/restaurant, Fernando was incredibly friendly and helpful and made us feel welcomed, despite the rest of the staff seeming like they really didn't want to be there and it was a chore rather than a paid job. This made leaving tips very difficult as I didn't feel I received an outstanding service.nnI can't comment on the spa as we didn't use it however, my wife said they were definitely London prices for the treatments.nnOverall, the Daffodil is in desperate need of a cash injection to bring it back up to it's 4 star standard. Especially when you consider what you pay to stay there. Next time, we might consider staying elsewhere unless they do the massive refurbishment it so desperately requires.
Stayed here two nights last week, beautiful hotel in a gorgeous location.nnSpa and room were both lovely, evening meals on both nights were gorgeous. Super king size bed very comfortable and not two single beds pushed together as per some reviews. The toiletries in the bathroom were lovelynnThe anniversary gift left in our room and in the restaurant was a lovely touchnnOnly minor complaint is that the hair dryer in the room was rubbish and could do with being updated
I have visited this hotel many times but this time on my own. Reception was quick and room ready early so I had extra time to walk into Grasmere. Parking plentiful. Food excellent and plenty of choice. Cleanliness perfect. The staff were all very friendly, smartly dressed and sociable. Everyone deserves praise who works here. A great stay, thankyou.
Spent a fantastic 2 nights ar the Daffodil. Located right on the edge of Lake Grasmere, the location is stunning, with some great walks on your doorstep. We had dinner 1 night and it was excellent. Very high quality. Two breakfasts were also great. Buffet hot breakfast was delicious and you could order from kitchen too. The rooms were a good size with big comfy bed. Excellent shower. The spa was was good, but got a little busy at times. Robes and slipper are provided so you can get from room to spa without having to change at the spa. We didn't try a massage.nAll in all, would highly recommend
