Con: The lack of water in the pool made it difficult to swim. Pro: Saved a lot of time not having to get dried.
Website says pool open 2pm to 8pm. After travelling from Bowness arrived to find pool closed with no water in it. Obviously not going to be open for sometime. Grandaughter had being looking forward to this. Please update your website to avoid unnecessary travel and disappointment.
I grew up in the lake district and learnt to swim here as a youngster. I have so many good memories of this place and have always loved the pool and building design. I heard the pool closed due to covid - the water then went stagnant and the council started telling people the building is past it's service life and has a crack in the pool floor foundations causing the water level to slowly dissipate. Personally I've heard this one before elsewhere when the local council doesnt want to pay the upkeep and try to cnvince the public as an excuse to let things go to save cash. I can tell you we used to travel 15 plus miles to go here so the pool is not only a loss to keswick javing no pool, but to a wide surrounding area plus tourists bringing in custom and money , especially being a leisure pool. I hope keswick council see the light and undertake some repairs to the exterior etc as the pool and building still look surprisingly sound and in good shape bar a lick of paint and window cleaning! The pool meant a lot to a lot of people and like me have had much fun there over the years. Please reopen it!
As I holiday owner that has pool/gym memberships for 20 year + & have always had a nice time using the facilities with family & friends. So, it would be courteous if the management teams/owners could produce a short/long-term strategy for the Keswick Leisure/Wave Pool, so that all the locals/schools/holiday makers can plan their activities, as Keswick must deserve/warrant a pool facility. I can appreciate that the centre building may not be fit for propose as it is, but like all older pool building they need upgrading. There seems to be quite a lot of new public development on the West Coast of Cumbria, that is not mirrored in Keswick/surrounding areas, which is very disappointing. Keswick must be the most popular location in the Northern Lakes & not reopening the pool, must go against the Governments Drive/DforE/Swim England etc Initiatives, as swimming is included in the National Curriculum especially in Primary, so we are failing these young people, especially in an area with so many water hazards. So can the Allendale Council/Trustees etc please get together & be gracious enough to let the people know what the plans are for the future!!! Thanks you Gary
It's a small but nice 'fun pool's for kids. About 25m x 20m. One small slide for toddlers and one pipe slide for older kids and adults. The 'deep' end is just 1.6m and there's a wave machine that goes every 30 minutes. At times there were 7! lifeguards on duty. It's a shame they don't pay more attention to cleaning as to do safety. Customers are walking about the changing room in outdoor shoes. Many of the lockers still don't take the new £1 coin, rendering them virtually useless. Customers in the viewing area were allowed to walk up to the pool in outdoor shoes. But worst of all, the walls of the pool are disgustingly dirty. There is a tide mark at the waterline that looks like a Flash TV advert. 3 stars for the pool, 1 star for cleanliness. 2 stars overall...
I took two of my children here 3 and 7 years for the aqua splash hour. They had great fun. I feel like the reviews give mix messages and there are some pointers that would be helpful for parents which aren’t really mentioned on the reviews. Parking; there is a pay and display which you can get refunded or if you pop in reception seem to give you a ticket for free because you’re using the facilities. Arrival; with myself and two children to help get ready I always arrive 15minutes before the session so we can be ready and we can make the most of the time in the pool. However I discovered on arrival that they don’t allow you to pay or go in until five minutes before the session which equated in standing in reception with two very excited children for ten minutes which felt like an eternity. The staff were great very polite and helpful. Changing rooms; it’s communal there are changing rooms some with baby facilities, family change rooms and individual rooms. The lockers were good also as there were smaller ones and family ones. The family ones are huge my three year old could stand in it. The pool is nice. It’s an odd shape and not very deep I believe the deepest section is 1.6m. So I wouldn’t recommend for someone wanting to go for a decent swim but fun for children. There is a small slide for young children and a large tubular slide for bigger ones. Children under four CAN go on the large slide providing they go on with an adult. On the website the aqua splash session had been described as having toys and floats to play with which it didn’t. It did entail the wave machine being turned on twice during the pool session. This was great fun and the children enjoyed it thoroughly. The staff were organised and plenty were on hand to assist if needed. A lot has been said about how clean it is. It’s dated, it looks tired and the tiles have gone an off colour. However it was clean. My biggest issue was water on the floor in the toilets, changing room and around the pool there was an awful lot of puddles which a member of staff could be sweeping away a couple of times a day would really make a difference. I have seen it done at other pools so it can be sorted. The other important thing to note is that their cafe is no longer open. There is seating still to eat if you brought your own. I was very disappointed with this as the website has a menu and prices up still also! Staff were apologetic and had good local knowledge of where you could go. I would recommend this as a fun activity to do and if the website had been more accurate and they were on top of puddles more I would of given it 5stars.
Decent pool for young inexperienced swimmers, due to the gradual sloping pool. Not really of much use to serious swimmers, as the deep end is only 1.6m and there is no practical starting point. Often overcrowded on Sunday's, to the point where it resembles a glorified bird bath. The water slide is good fun for younger and older children alike. Unisex changing facilities, but there are decent sized changing rooms available.
The pool has a really fun tunnel slide - part of it is black so great for older kids. We went during Aqua Splash time as they have a wave machine which is activated periodically. This is very gentle so more appropriate for primary school kids as is the pool as it is mostly shallow.
The pool/gym facilities are good and worthy of 4/5 STARS, however they charge £1.60 per person to spectate in the plastic seats in the area on the side of the pool. The cafe is now closed so there is no where to at least get a coffee/tea while watching your children. My children are 10 & 16 so do not require my supervision and is good to let them have fun with out the fun police around. The temperature around the pool/seating area is good if you are in trunks or a swimming costume but not if you are dressed. My main problem is having to pay for nothing!
Changing rooms are large enough unless it's really busy - like when it's pouring down! Have seen the queue for entry going around half the building! The pool is good with a sloping shallow end which is great for babies and younger kids or letting their parents lounging around in the water. Waterslide is good fun though be prepared to queue! Highlight is the wave machine which is usually used every so often while you're in and is great fun. Cafe offers drinks and snacks with poolside seating so nice to sit and relax while the kids swim.
