An idyllic little spot. Felt lovely to walk past lots of wild garlic, only to eat it in a beautiful pasta! Portions looks small but you’d be surprised how much fits in those little pots. Really friendly staff as well and some especially talented bakers! I had the rocky road and it was fantastic. Wish I could come back more often!
We loved the 'old' Chesters and sadly were swayed by the reviews over the last year and didn't visit on our trip to the area in summer but decided to try it for breakfast today and what a lovely surprise! Instead of falling apart during covid like so many businesses have, they adapted and turned into a fab little bakery. We bought drinks and treats the pastries are as big as they look! which looked and tasted amazing, served by lovely, friendly staff and enjoyed them sat by the river. I'm just sad I let the recent reviews stop us from visiting the new concept Chesters and supporting such a great little businesses sooner!
Chester’s never fails to impress, we have been going here for years and every time it is just as good as the last and it was amazing the first time, so take from that what you will. The staff are always super friendly and welcoming, service with a smile. We came here for years before we realised everything they offered was vegan, we’ve had pizzas, burgers and cakes and then someone had to tell us that they were vegan before we knew. That to me says that they have nailed the vegan offering. If that wasn’t enough, they have one of the most interesting shops I have ever been in to. I would love to win the lottery and go to their shop. It’s expensive as you would imagine for very individual items you can’t find anywhere else, but I don’t think I have gotten away with not buying anything before, mostly for presents for the wife. All in all these guys have been smashing it for years and I believe they will be smashing it for years to come…
Chesters is a wonderful vegetarian cafe right on a very picturesque river. The variety on the menu is great and the food tastes superb. Very friendly staff and good service. Would definitely recommend this lovely little cafe. Very doggy friendly too which is always a bonus.
One of the best cafés I've been to in a long time. Very well run with plenty of nice staff. Really quite a pricey cafe and gift shop attached but definitely worth it for a delicious rocky road. A rather busy place with stunning foods seen from the minute you enter, fresh and brilliant quality. The perfect stop off for a snack!!
We stopped here for lunch on a walk from Ambleside to Elswater. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were pleasantly surprised by the portion sizes and everything we tried was delicious and fresh. I loved the salads, particularly the cauliflower one. We were so full that we had to get cake to take away, the selection was great and again large portions. You must stop here if you are in the area!
AWESOME. A total must. Amazing food, great service and lovely location. Had the MOST wonderful reasonably priced meal. Jackie was a fantastic waitress friendly and helpful. Highly highly recommend cant wait to return.
Best chocolate cake ever!!! This place is a must! Very lovely people working at Chesters by the river and it is a dog friendly place where you can enjoy an amazing cake! All of them looked amazing but the waiters recommend me the chocolate cake. The best one!! We didn't have lunch but everything looked very good. Thank you very much for having us guys!
Chester's had obviously gone through some changes & it's lost custom but I really enjoyed my experience at Chester's by the river. As vegan this place was perfect after my fell walk. All cakes and bakes I was told were vegan' I thought' holy smokes!! I scoffed one of the best flapjacks ever and then a blueberry scone & a delicious oat latte to accompany these goodies. Will be back while I'm up in ambleside
A nice cafe and a good stop for refreshments when out hiking in the Skelwith Bridge area. The food is always good but as we live in a world where acceptance of everyone's differences and their different choices I would like to see some options that are not just vegan or vegetarian... A sausage roll or a paste with meat in would be a nice option for the customers that want it! Vegetarians have expected 'vegetarian' options on menu's for decades, why do carnivores not get meat options? Also in a world where we now live with Covid why do we still have to eat in out of a paper bag with wood cutlery?
