Had a trip around the castle today. The gardens are so relaxing. Very very well maintained and looks beautiful. The staff were excellent, Friendly, warm and all willing to have a joke and full of smiles. If you have kids there is a rather good little play area for them to discharge some of that energy they have. My partner wanted to do the cave tour but I was not that keen on it. I’m so glad she persuaded me to do it. For just £5 we got an over one hour tour. This was delivered by Barry who you can tell is completely in love with the history of Nottingham and the caves at Nottingham Castle. His knowledge was brilliant, his delivery was fantastic and his attitude to giving us a tour to remember was second to none. I remember standing listening to Barry talking about events hundreds of years ago thinking it happened yesterday. Well done to Barry first class delivery. The caves themselves were an experience to be stood at the point of some historic events in our history was quite humbling. Well worth the £15 entry and if you ask my humble opinion £5 for the cave tour is far too low. I’d have happily paid double for that experience.
Pay once come again as many times as you like for a year. The exhibits here are excellent and varied, interactive, child friendly, artwork you name it. There's also an excellent play castle area and two cafés on site. My only bug bear is the additional charge for the tunnels. Otherwise a superb place to spend half a day.
I recommend the cave tour. Only cost 5£ and the tour leader is friendly and funny, I enjoyed the tour. The entrance fee/ visit galleries were 15£ which is expensive, there is not much to see tbh. There is a good view from the top! And don't forget to take a photo with Robin Hood, fortunately, he is outside of the castle so it's free!
Absolutely lovely place to spend a couple hours. Overlooking Nottingham, would suggest to do the tour of the caves where our experience guide Fiona had us laughing as she shared the history of the castle and the surrounding area. Always good to get the inside scoop over the centuries to get a better idea to the lives of the people, some who partied and others who struggled. Imperative to do the tour of the caves for an extra 5 pounds! Also, the opportunity need to take the time and walk through the art galleries is a must along with a nice cup of coffee and a dessert from the little café.
Barry the caves tour guide is a master history and story teller. He is extremely knowledgeable and full of charisma. He definitely brought us back in time. His party Harry was great also. The 2 young ladies at the entrance counter were extremely helpful and hilarious. Humor is important. God bless.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
On the morning of 7/3/24, we arrived at Nottingham Castle at 10am. I was pleasantly surprised by the experience, as it exceeded my expectations. As soon as you enter, you're greeted with interactive displays perfect for kids. The first stop was a dress-up area with costumes like knights, Robin Hood, and Maid Marian. There were activities like archery, staff fighting, and multiplayer games where you can rob people and try not to get caught, put out fires in the city, or collect prayers. The second floor focused on later periods of Nottingham history, while the last floor housed a modern art museum. Outside, we discovered a remarkable Robin Hood-themed playground and captivating statues on the premises. It is definitely a fantastic place to visit with children!
Lots of fun interactives for the kids! Some great art and antique pieces. Go outside of the cafe for views of the city! Pretty cool playground for kids too!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Nicely arranged for visitors. Entry through the main gate and cafe/shop. Grounds are nice and a great kids playground, but entry to visitor stuff is via the Robin Hood experience. Interactive displays, art galleries and another cafe. Views across the City towards the centre and Trent Bridge cricket ground. Robin Hood statues are outside the castle, near the street bars.
Very interesting experience. Past mixed with new technologies. The place is huge, 3 floors, a lot of history, amazing views, interesting interactions like shouting from a bow and dressing up as peasants : worth visiting. It took us 45 Minutes, but we were in a hurry. I think it may be a 2 hrs attraction. They have a little coffee inside and a souvenir shop. History lessons are done by interactive people on the screen. You can also watch cartoons about certain events around the castle.
The castle has been closed for so long I was looking forward to visiting finally but it has been renovated poorly. It's nice to look at from the outside but it's sad that there's hardly any original features left after the restorations. Nice views from the top. It doesn't feel like a Castle/palace at all, it's just a gallery now with a cafe and some bits of Nottingham history. This should be so much better. The grounds could be put to better use. Not somewhere you'd visit multiple times.
