Finally went to the caves and really enjoyed them. The tour guides talk as we worked our way through some of the caves. The talk was entertaining and informative and really showcased the caves and how they have been used over the centuries.Visited onWeekendWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedYes
I recently took a tour at the City of Caves, and it was a fantastic experience! The informative guide truly enhanced the visit, providing fascinating insights about the history and significance of the caves. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend it to anyone interested in exploring Nottingham's unique underground attractions!
We did not know what to expect, and it definitely blew our minds. We parked at a bus station car park, and it was a very short walk to get to the caves. Easy to find. Staff were very friendly and helpful, tickets cost us 17.50 for two people on a weekday. The young lady explained the rules and helped to get the audio set up. It is audio tour, approx 40 min. The caves are quite big and there is so much to see. It was a circular walk. Crazy to think that all of this is hidden under the city. Definitely recommend visiting. And it is good value for money. Hopefully will be back at some point in a future.
great tourist sport if you’re interested in history! the guided tours were very informative and interesting, with some humorous elements! the tour is a bit short but worth it if you’re interested in Nottingham history, or English history in general! definitely book ahead, as many people were turned away due to booked out tours!Visited onWeekendWait time10–30 minReservation recommendedYes
The city of caves was fairly interesting, though I wish it was larger and that we could have explored some of the other 799 caves. Some of the other reviews indicate that we could have taken a self guided tour, which would have been nice to do whilst listening to the audio guide. Though, we weren’t informed we could do that. We would have preferred to explore the caves at our own pace. The City of Caves is hard to find ever since the entrance via the Broadmarsh Intu shopping centre is not in use because the centre has been abandoned since 2017. It’s now accessed down near a skate park underneath the flyover.
This was a very enjoyable experience about these fascinating caves. Natasha, who was our guide, was very entertaining. Overall, it was informative and gave an interesting insight into the history of the caves. Definitely requires sensible shoes. We bought a combination ticket at the National Justice Museum, and by the time we arrived for our tour, they had sold out tickets. We were glad to have booked our slot in advance.
Good place to find our some history and have a wander around some caves in a city centre, not many places can offer that. Pretty well thought out as there is an audio guide that you listen on your phone to and the qr code is dotted around almost exactly in the place I lost it as I closed the window it was on. If you do, get the combined ticket with the justice museum as it saves you a bit of money, and both are great to go to.
These are fascinating caves dug out of the sandstone under the centre of Nottingham about 1000 years ago. The guided tour is very well done and makes the history come alive. The underground tannery, found during building works in the 1970s, is particularly interesting. There are a lot of steps, low ceilings and dark passages in the caves so you need to be reasonably fit but children should love it. The tour lasts about 45 minutes and there are no toilets.
Brilliant. Why on earth haven't we been here before now !! On our doorstep !! So, an easy tram ride in. A walk to The Contemporary and steps down the side of the building, towards a little skate park. Caves entrance on the right. £7 entry - worth every penny. There's steps down, and uneven floors, but nothing excessive. Really interesting to hear the various uses of these caves and tunnels, either via headphones or an app on your phone. Takes about 45 mins - an hour. These caves have been in use for hundreds of years, last used for housing in the 1920s. There's also a little gift shop, video to watch but no toilets on site - suggested nearest are at The Galleries of Justice, minutes away. Great visit on a rainy day. It's suggested that you book a time slot, especially at peak holiday times.
Very enjoyable experience. Our guide Eva or Eve, pretty girl with beautiful eyes was both entertaining and informative. The caves are remarkable for their history, wish there was more to explore.Visited onWeekdayWait timeUp to 10 minReservation recommendedYes
