Nice for season and static pitches but for tourers NOT worth the premium it charges no matter how close to Beamish it is. One of the places that charges per child/dog/awning etc so for family of 4 with a dog it’s cheaper to get a hotel. That said the money is placed into the static side of the site as it is clean and tidy and well maintained. Can’t say the same for the touring side. On a hill, narrow roads, tiny loo which is a small portacabin dressed up as a log cabin. 2 urinals and 1 Cubicle for the gents. Not enough if the place was busy. Showers are tiny and cost extra to use (tokens only available to buy from Reception or bar). Only tourer Access to site is through a town with speed bumps every 200ft and then along a really badly surfaced road (that’s not the site owners fault as 3 ways in and 2 of those have signs saying not suitable for caravans). Site is on a hill and even use of both ramps couldn’t get van level. Also very very tight. If the pitch opposite was in use it would be impossible to park van without a motor mover. There was an area they are obviously redeveloping so it was all boarded off. Hopefully they are building new loos and showers. It’s the sort of place that has signs up everywhere saying what is NOT allowed, Staff were a bit off when we arrived, Were in a better mood and demeanour when we left. The little pub was nice but the night we were in the choice of music the DJ was playing was terrible and way to loud I think he realised that himself as it was turned off and background music back on after half an hour. It’s a shame the onsite pub didn’t do food.

Good site - expensive as right on top of Beamish. Clean site but some pitches bit dodgy for space and parking up.

We visited this site over august bank holiday weekend with a touring caravan. First impressions were that the site was very compact. Our pitch was on a steeply sloping hill with a very narrow service road which made it really tricky to site the caravan. The pitches also felt very tightly packed in. The site itself appears to be well managed. It's clean and tidy and the staff seem to be helpful. There's a small football court with artificial grass that keeps children entertained along with a playground an a zip line. Note: this makes it a good site for families with young children, perhaps less so for those looking for tranquility. Note for those visiting with a caravan: there are three routes to the entrance to the site, two of which are "unsuitable for caravans"! Take the route that comes from the northern side (down Birkland Lane from Sunniside) This site has its positives: - great for families with young children - great location for visiting Beamish museum ... And its negatives: - hilly - expensive (showers are on top of the high pitch fee, kids are extra) - high pitch density

Very Hilly, quite tight if you have a very large caravan, however lovely views and a lovely rural area that is perfectly situated next to Beamish museum. The site is clean and has all the facilities including a play area and club house.
