Fab spot in the centre of Hay. Great food and perfect for any occasion. Been here a few times and never disappoints - went with my family for the burger bar today and they were delicious. Generous portions and kids very happy. Nice outdoor area, part of which is covered too so good in any weather. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend - winter or summer. And, beautiful window boxes to top it off!
Enjoyed our lunch here at the Blue Boar. It had friendly service and feels cosy. It's not 5 star dining, but you know that. It offers a warm welcome with comfort food at reasonable prices. The portions are also a good size. We had two lots of the ratatouille and one cheeseburger. The ratatouille was very tasty but was more like a soup. It was served with delicious garlic bread. The cheeseburger was also very good and received no complaints. Considering it was a sunny Saturday, we were able to walk in and get a table, and there was no need to wait. Would recommend if in Hay on Wye!
We walked through the main pub to find a gem in the back garden. A Family of 4 ordered burgers. Home made and mostly we really enjoyed. One burger was very rare as per picture, our teenage daughter can't eat anything rare and left the burger itself. When we gave some feedback the guy was not impressed. We were not rude just said if they're sending them out rare maybe check, as we enjoyed but not everyone does. He said he couldn't have sent it or rare because of the bacon. No bacon In site, nor was it on the menu, kind of a non answer. It makes no odds to us as we're not local, we were not after our money back and won't be returning anyway. Id say go, but not if you want a non rare burger or a polite answer to anything raised. Id have given a much higher score if not for this. The back garden was very pretty and good music.
Lovely food, the chips were great and burgers even better.Food: 5/5
Had no expectations walking in, but how did they deliver! The place is charming and comfortable. On the cold day we arrived they had the log fires going. The service was good but the food that we had was divine.Food: 5/5
Such a lovely pub! Staff were so friendly, food was delicious and the atmosphere was really welcoming. Our first time in Hay-on-wye and was looking for a bite to eat. Glad we came here. Also their burger is quite possibly the most delicious burger I have had.
Nothing to recommend this place to anybody. Normally I can find positives in everything, but not here, . Had burger and chips, there was more cheese melted on plate than on burger, chips were rock hard, was offered replacement chips which did arrive eventually. Had to pay for meal as soon as we ordered it , so asked for refund ond chef sitting at bar didn't even seem bothered.
Fantastic food and good atmosphere. Didn't have to reserve but there were a few people in there a Tuesday. Food felt freshly prepared. Bar tender was very polite. The pub is card payment only.Food: 5/5
Had the best pie in my life here! We came here for 2 meals in a row and wish we knew how good the pub is earlier. Everything we ordered were so good!! Love it!
Pleasant atmosphere. Went here in 2023 and was really impressed 5 stars. This time: served by rather unfriendly bar person for first drink, clearly didn’t want to be there. Beer selection was average. Prices above average - the Hay premium - daft prices for food £25 for fish and chips. Little in the way of local beers. Every table reserved with no times shown so had to negotiate with said indifferent bar person. Second bar person restored my confidence.
