The hotel overall is okay but it needs some renovation as some features in the bedroom are quite damaged. The rooms are big and the views are lovely. It is also at walking distance from the city centre. Checking from 3pm and checkout till 10am seems to be pushing it a bit. Breakfast is from 7:30am to 9:30am so it’s quite busy. Missing hot milk, decaffeinated coffee, any fruit, ham and cheese… It’s a basic English breakfast with some extra cereals and croissants. Asked for hot milk and got ignored by the waitress. Had to ask another waiter a second time, but apart from that the service was good.
The hotel is situated on the front with great views But the room we were in had dog hair on the carpet and the carpet was stained with dog poo also during the hottest day of the year so far we couldn't open the window to get some fresh air in so had to ask at reception for a fan. As for the staff they were very helpful. As for the food ti was the same menu every night a bit boring
This place, while it must have been grand in a former life, it's now just a bit shabby around the edges. Our room was right next to their function suite which had a Scottish country dance band playing for a coach load of English tourists. The noise came through the wall and if the band had been any good, it may just, have been acceptable. The thing that got me the most about our room, and the corridor outside, was the constant squeaking of the floorboards. Every square inch cresked as soon as you set foot in it. All in all, could do better. Food & drinks: We had the breakfast and all fairly stock hotel fare. Serviceable but nothing outstanding.
Arrived December 23 coach was late arriving but very quick check in The restaurant was kept open late to accommodate the late arrival We was told case's would be taken to our rooms on arrival but our case's still in reception That was not a problem just had to pull 2 case's along corridor to ground floor room not far to walk as requested Thank You for the room location. The room was big a little bit dated loose floor boards Both breakfast and dinner lots of choice for all meals Christmas day lunch perfect The restaurant staff were fantastic a few delays between courses but this was to be expected by the guest to staff ratio well done the waiting on staff The reception staff always very helpful. A big thank you to the Management and all staff we had a enjoyable 11 days stay
Stayed for two nights at Great Western in Oban. We had read reviews before arrival with some trepidation. We had read that it needed updating but on arrival we found this to be true. Our room although seemingly to be stuck in the 70's was scrupulously clean and well equipped. The hotel is well situated for easy walking into Oban town centre. There was a problem with our bed and when we mentioned this to Melinda at reception she immediately dealt with the problem and offered us the choice of not one but two other rooms. The breakfast at the hotel is self service buffet style and was very, very good with plenty to choose from. The staff at the hotel are all very helpful and friendly and willing to please. Value for money is a definite and we are both looking forward to a return visit in the future. The hotel is indeed updating their rooms which we realised when we moved to our other one Walkability: Can walk into town centre within a few minutes Food & drinks: Breakfast was delicious and plentiful
Staff were very friendly, as mentioned in other reviews decor needs a revamp even if carried out, one room at a time to reduce impact on loss of revenue. Nothing a professional team of painters/ decorators couldn't fix. Breakfast choices were adequate with cooked breakfast very nice . Good location only a few minutes walk from centre of the town including railway station. All in all a nice place with good views over Oban Bay and reasonably priced. I only dropped points for the decor. Walkability: Great place to base yourself for walking in and around Oban.
We stayed for 1 night 24/04/24. We were allocated room 31. This room had stains on the ceiling and the ceiling wallpaper had been patched. The floor sloped so much the desk had wedges under it to make it straight. One of the beds sagged badly and squeaked whenever you moved. The handle over the bath was rusty and the bathroom windows paint was flaking. Around the window the paint was black. We reported all of this as we checked out and the receptionist said they were unaware of any issues with the room I am sure others must have complained previously. Walkability: On seafront and close to town centre
this hotel is outdated to say the least. The floor squeak when you walk on it, the bathroom is revolting, the furniture is dirty, the mattresses are like bought from a car boot sale, the tv is tiny and above all the staff lack common sense and they border on rudeness. the car park, which was advertised as available, wasn't. although, there were spaces available when we are arrived, they were coned off for others who went out for the day. this contradicts all other hotels policies that we stayed in in the past. I will never stay in this hotel again and I will ask agoda to refund me my money.
Good hotel for the price. Staff was really friendly and helpful. 4 stars on the room because the hotel itself needs updated and a little attention to details, like little webs in corners. But I'd stay againRooms: 4/5
stayed overnight November '23. Beautiful location and views from our room. We ate both in the evening and at breakfast and were very pleased with the food and excellent service. All the staff were extremely helpful and the hotel although needing a refresh was very clean. Of all the hotels we stayed at whilst in Scotland this was by far our favourite.
