I stayed at the Anchorage with my partner for 4 nights as part of a coach tour . I was apprehensive when I read some of the reviews bit I found the hotel very good value for money. The public areas were newly decorated and the food was very good. Dinner and breakfast were buffet style and most people, including the large Dutch party, enjoyed them. There is a lift, but several fire doors. The room overlooked the pool and was very pleasant. Plenty of tea coffee and biscuits as well as toiletries.. However, a few of our party were disappointed by the standard of the single rooms which had not been refurbished. The entertainment was quite loud and not really of a high standard, but you can't please everyone. I often think some negative reviews are written with a view to obtaining a refund. Taxi to Torquay about £6 but I was told there is public transport nearby..

Excellent food good hospitality good entertainment. Hotel very clean rooms excellent. Staff very friendly went out of their way to help in any way they were able. Looking forward to going again in the not to distant future. They even had a swimming pool.

The downstairs of the hotel is very attractive, the food was lovely and we really enjoyed our cooked breakfast every morning. Unfortunately we were a little disappointed in our room for the price we were paying. Our bathroom door wouldn't shut, our toilet seat wasn't fitted properly and kept slipping and our duvet case was ripped the entire time we were there. We feel the pictures used online are a little misleading. We then found a little tank of nitrous oxide under our bed which is an illegal high. We then handed this into reception but didn't feel this was taken seriously. The staff were very helpful and friendly but we didn't feel happy paying the amount that we did for our stay.

So bad it's hard to know where to begin....if you like hostel standards for your room then you wont be disappointed. Mouldy windows...broken beds.....bad state of repair throughout. Even when they upgraded us the toilet seat was split and water damaged a d the bed base was mouldy...simply not acceptable to be called a hotel

Appalling, absolutely appalling... having been informed by the receptionist on Saturday there was availability for a disabled wheelchair bound person from the beginning of this week, when I phone this morning, Monday, I'm told there is no room available until the beginning of September in the most offhand manner by the manager.. apparently the receptionist 'got it wrong' ... no sorry, nothing.... I live in Torbay and only needed a little respite from my house as it's unsuitable for me at the moment.. if I could give this uncaring establishment zero stars I would.. there are plenty of top top hotels in the Bay, avoid this uncaring one st all costs
