Lovely place to have a breakfast. It also has a large variety of foods and tea and caters for vegetarians
We had a Bakewell tart and tea. Umm not very special but it was alright. Just really really busy and loud. Anyway nice place for having tea.
Fantastic service and excellent food recomend for breakfast and dinner.
These are upstairs rooms with a variety of tables in just a couple of rooms. Welcomed and seated quickly. The menu isn't vast but I would say adequate for the needs of visitors. Sandwiches with salad, Cole slaw and crisps on the side, were made freshly. Although the bread slices were fairly thick the sandwiches had plenty of filling and tasted very nice. We had the Bakewell tart to follow, which was served warm and was absolutely delicious.
Booked table as there were 6 of us. Staff most accommodating. We needed children's and gluten free meals. Children's were brought quickly and very good sized portions. Gluten free fish and chips were lovely. I'd go again
It was certainly an entertaining visit for lunch. After waiting ten minutes someone came to take our order. I asked if they had a menu. Then the different members of the serving team all tried to take our order seconds apart. We ordered two Sunday roasts and three drinks. Only two drinks arrived. After ten more minutes a server came over and asked if the Sunday roasts were beef or chicken. One of each please. Five further minutes later, the server returns and explains that he's very sorry but they only have turkey. We laughed out loud. He didn't understand why. Nobody brought a bill so we hunted the staff down in the kitchen. The bill was wrong. The food was okay. The service was innocently hopeless, not bad. I'd go back but my expectations would be low.
Wow, this place has changed and not for the better. Back in the days when Carlos had this place you could get wholesome food served all day, I should know, I used to eat here every Saturday for years before walking in the Peaks. So I recommend Byways to some friends as we're in Bakewell for the day, we arrived at 1.40pm sat down and the waitress asked if we were ready to order, we asked for a few minutes so we could decide, 20 minutes later the waitress came and took our order, but then told us it was too late to order what we wanted, sandwiches and chips, we could now only order cake. So we ordered some teas and coffees and now it's another 20 minutes later and we still haven't had our drinks. When we enquired where our drinks were the waitress said they were mostly made but we're waiting for stuff to come out of the dishwasher. 45 minutes to get a pot of tea. Once my tea arrived it was nice enough. What's happened to this place? I'm afraid I won't be recommending Byways again, and that's a sad day. Maybe more staff would have helped? Very disappointed.
Very poor service. We visited due to the fact that Gluten Free Food was advertised. We ordered coffee, toast and a toasted teacake. Our coffee came and 10 minutes later no sign of our light bite. Other people had come in and received their food before us. We had finished our drinks and decided to leave as we like our food with our coffee. On the way out I spoke to a 'waitress' and told her why we were leaving. I said I would not pay due to the inconvenience and poor service. We had to find somewhere else then to cater for someone who needed GF food. The tearoom was not busy-5 tables with people incl us. Extremely dissappointed, would not return and would not recommend.
Used to be our regular cafe in Bakewell . I'm afraid we will not be visiting again. Since the change of hands, the café has really gone down hill. Quality of food is now terrible. The service was okay and my drink was actually lovely. But some serious changes need to be made before me and my family return. Such a pity really. Lovely building and cosy rooms. ..
Every morning we were in Bakewell we came here for the best home-cooked breakfast you could ask for. Carlos made us most welcome and was a very generous host. We travel a lot and will remember the Byways as a favourite breakfast spot. Thoroughly recommended,
