Sat for about 50 minutes waiting for my meal. I ordered a medium sirloin steak! People before us, being served, and watching them eat. Nobody came to us.... totally perplexed. Both left bill paid, no food. Just basic etiquette totally overlooked. Food is probably good, but....staff need to get on board. Totally ruined our evening.. Update.... Looking at the recent reviews, and the attitude in which you reply to the feedback. New management would be a good start.
Lovely family and dog friendly pub. We had some amazing food, the atmosphere was brilliant and Rachel and the team couldn't have been more on board! It makes a real difference when the staff are friendly, happy and engaging. Certainly the best place to eat in Bakewell. We had a great evening, thank you!
Great dog friendly bar. Friendly staff, good food , lovely atmosphere, proper pub. Didn't stay over so can't comment on the rooms. We had a beer at lunch and went back for evening meal. Had a good deal on 2 courses for £16. Food was really nice .
Visited on Sunday .First time we had visited this pub and we were not disappointed Great selection of beers and lagers . All the staff were really friendly and polite. We had Sunday lunch which was absolutely fantastic.Lovely tender beef and loads of veg.My wife had the chicken which was just as nice. Both meals were nice and hot and the service was excellent. We will definitely return next time we are in Bakewell.
Came here today and found an exquisite pub nestled in the beautiful old town of Bakewell... The Red Lion was Refurbished to a very high standard only a couple of years ago this pub with guest accommodation really is a tastefully decorated in keeping with the area. Covered seating and eating outside and extended seating inside makes this an ideal eating / sleeping venue if visiting Bakewell. Alex the new landlord was a great host, very welcoming and accommodating he and his good lady have the whole pub top to bottom looking clean and fresh.
Brilliant lunch menu! Friendly atmosphere, good prices and fantastic food. Sausages & mash for £8 on the lunch menu is brilliant, and the quality was miles above the price. Would absolutely come back!
We came here a few years ago and the food was beautiful but unfortunately this wasn't the case with our most recent visit so it might have changed ownership. The starters took forever to come out and people that had ordered food before us received their food first. When we eventually got our food it was cold and the kitchen can't seem to follow a ticket as I asked for the curry to have chips instead of rice and I saw it get written on the ticket, once the food eventually arrived it was incorrect and served with rice. The food is expensive for what you get and the service you receive, the chips used to be chunky and homemade and are now bland and horrible and like they're out of a bag. The fish was tasteless and the mushy peas tasted cheap. Some of the staff that were on had an attitude problem as well as they brought someone else's food to our table and then proceeded to give us dirty looks when we told them it wasn't ours. On top of this the toilets had no toilet roll, it's safe to say that we will not be returning, which is a shame seeing as how much we enjoyed it a few years ago but the quality of staff and food has definitely gone downhill and I would not recommend. It should have been a red flag with how many tables were empty whereas when we visited before we had to wait because the pub was so busy. Update to reply: it was most definitely this red lion so I don't appreciate you insinuating that I don't know where I have been I am not stupid. We did approach the waitress who was serving our table however she said there was "nothing she could do". We visited on Monday, you also had no burgers available and this was at 11:50. We were sat at table 21 and our visit was a waste of money because none of us enjoyed anything and we will not be returning.
Really nice food thank you. We just found the staff behind the bar a little bit grumpy and slow at serving, but I'm guessing we all have off days. Service: 3/5
We went to the Red lion to have Sunday roast and it was lovely. We thought the prices were nice compared to the amount of food and quality of food we got. It was a little unusual for us to have to go to the bar to order, without a wait staff primarily but as we spent more time in the UK we learned this is pretty typical for a pub or smaller places so we have no issues with it. Overall the environment was nice, food was great and there wasn't a lot of attention from the staff but that was completely fine for us. If you are someone who needs to constantly be checked on and fussed about, England may not be the Country for you. We found everything to be very go with the flow and just get about your day nicely kind of vibe and we adore it there.
Went for lunch ordered 3 Sausage Dinners and a Scampi and Chips Chips cold but didn't have time to complain as needed to back at coach station. Thought I'd have enough time as we went in at 1.50 and needed to meet coach at 3.30. Our meals arrived on table at 2.45 after asking twice Must say table cleared super fast only just put my knife and fork down and my plate was gone shame nice pub but service in kitchen needs great improvement I feel I know what I'm talking about as I work in hospitality my self
