Came to Bakewell for a day out and accidentally parked in this car park thinking the payment machine there was the correct one. Rang the bar today to try and clear up the error and the manager only wanted to try and blackmail me into revisiting and buying food and drink and leaving a positive review before she would cancel the fine off. Manager has a terrible attitude and staff are not helpful at all when it doesn’t benefit them. She wanted me to write a fraudulent review and spend money before cancelling fine. Would prefer to pay the £60 PCN before spending that in this horrible place.
We visited for an evening meal with 4 adults two dogs and a baby. This wasn’t an issue at all a were seated in the bar area. Food was fresh and very good. So much so we returned next day with elderly relative who Lives in the Bakewell for lunch. Again no issues getting us sorted even though was very busy for market day. And any one point nearly every table in bar had a dog which was fantastic! Again no problems with food and service was fantastic in both visit. Would recommend!
Can't comment on rooms as we didn't stay. But, we had pie and chips, and a couple of drinks and it was lovely! Manager and bar staff are really friendly and helpful, and the locals made us feel very welcomed! Walkability: This pub is next to the River Wye, so it offers a lovely walk after a few pints or a belly full of food Food & drinks: Snap was bang on! No complaints.
Fantastic stay after being recommended by a friend. Excellent location just a short walk to the main attraction of Bakewell and especially amenable to people with limited mobility. Just a few steps into the main restaurant and our room. The staff are so welcoming from Manager to waiter/bar staff. The food is excellent and we love this little place. Cant wait for our planned return
The menu looks promising, but the food is warm and a bit sad. Nothing posh like shown in the picture, just below average pub food.
The worst service I have ever had at a pub. When the food came out the woman plonked the plates on the table without a word. We were sat outside and I asked if we could have some cutlery. I did not realise that this was such a ridiculous request, the waitress then pointed me to what I can only describe as a barn door and said 'it's in there'. I thought she was joking but then realised upon opening the barn door that there was a trolley of cutlery in their storage cupboard. The lady then went in to get it for us and then immediately pulled the trolley of condiments out all unwashed and then left it about 5 benches away from our table. The single rudest member of staff I have ever dealt with. Food was excellent and the location too. It is just a shame about the dire service.
Distinctly average pub serving mid to low quality food at inflated prices, not out of line with other similar low-brow establishments. To compound this my visit has also been tarnished by a £100 parking fine for using the car park and not registering my vehicle which was not something I was aware was required. Paying with cash means I don't have evidence of being there, normally I'd take a picture of my food which may count as evidence but as it looked so unappealing I didn't even bother. Won't return, don't suggest you visit. x
Decided to go here for Sunday lunch today based on knowing it was dog friendly as we had our little sausage dog with us. I had the Roast beef dinner and it was delicious and very filling. There were 4 of us, 2 adults, both had roasts, 2 children, one had kids roast which was a substantial size and the other had the Cajun chicken basket with skin on fries which again was huge. Would recommend and would go again. We didn't stay for pudding as we were 'full' and wanted to have a walk round town and find somewhere to have some ice cream.
We've attempted this place twice now and walked out both times. First time was last summer, we were seated without being told half the items were off the menu so each time we tried to order we were then told the items were unavailable. We eventually found something for our little boy to then be told there is a 50 minute wait for food. We have just been back to try again, booked a table online for 11:30am. Upon booking it asks if you will be eating. We arrived, they took our order of a drink whilst we chose our food then we ordered at the bar.. To be told food orders cannot be taken until 12pm?! We booked for food for 11.30 with our toddler who isn't going to sit for 45 minutes waiting for food. Poor service. Will not bother again
My wife and I paid a first time visit to Bakewell and I spotted this bar after crossing the bridge, but we enjoyed a circuit of the town first for some retail therapy. We returned to the Castle and were rewarded with first class service, very friendly and helpful staff and a glorious lunch. My wife had the sea bass and scallop with pea, courgette and mint risotto followed by sticky toffee and date pudding, which she thoroughly enjoyed. I opted for the Asian curry with chicken breast, and a slice of Bakewell tart with double cream, and a lovely pint of Greene King IPA to quench our thirsts. We were very impressed, and can recommend this pub and the team who run it, for their exemplary service.
