I liked the White Hart, it is quaint a warren of corridors and stairs. Part of it is very old dating from several hundred years ago. The rest is more modern. The food was very good, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms are adequate, they have en suites television tea and coffee makings. My only negative comment is in the room I had there was the dreaded black mould around some of the bath/ shower tiles. The bed was really comfortable. I stayed one night and it was fine, well positioned for shopping and visiting the cathedral etc. I would stay here again.
After finding myself in a pickle, I stumbled across this lovely place. Very accommodating and lovely staff. It’s a hotel with bar and eating area on one side of the lane and a restaurant on the other, its quite surreal and unique! Both properties are separated by a cobble stone lane with vines growing up the buildings and over head which is very pretty. It’s a very short walk down to the Quay and up to central station, excellently located. Night life all around and a brilliant, quiet nights sleep.
Popped in for a late lunch whilst walking my dog. Had a BBQ chicken and bacon melt sandwich and chips, and 2 pints of Razorback beer. Food was delicious, amongst the nicest chips I've ever had in a pub, and the beer was up to a high standard. The food was good value, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that the beer was cheaper than normal due to the reduced price real ale offer they run every Monday. Service was very good, despite a problem with one of the tills. We were able to sit in the separate bar room Bottlescrew Bill's?, down a couple of flights of steps, which was ideal for us. I love a pub that is dog friendly, and am aware that the White Hart has only fairly recently started to allow our four legged friends in, so that's a big thumbs up. Especially good having some dog treats on the bar. And although I'm not a fan of Halloween generally, the Halloween decoration they had were we were seated, was tastefully and appropriately done. The only downside to my visit was the gents toilets. Whilst they were functional, they could certainly do with updating.
ALL the staff were friendly, welcoming, helpful and efficient. Good parking on site, walking distance to city centre, Exeter Cathedral, Quayside, Corn Exchange etc. We had no problem altering our date to stay due to a rescheduling of a performance at the Corn Exchange, they were so accommodating and pleasant on the phone, such a joy! We will be back again without hesitation and would not think of staying anywhere else. Excellent value for money, and will recommend to anyone coming to Exeter.
I've been to the pub before, but not the hotel. Reception staff was great both check in and out and I really liked the room. It was clean and way more spacious than I expected. My only complaint would be the windows, bit old and were letting the noise from the street in. Apart from that, it was pretty much perfect, I'll definitely try to come back!
We have just come back after a 2 night stay and we believe we need to share our experience. Staff are absolutely brilliant. Rooms are dated, moldy, drafty and need updating. Metal, single glazed windows with mold on the net curtains. Drab decor, old wooden furniture. Old drab curtains that are awful. When we arrived I had to secure the toilet seat which had become loose. Whether the other rooms were the same I cannot say, but our room certainly was in dire need of updating. As said, the staff were brilliant and we had absolutely no issues with them, the rooms, a completely different story. As we had traveled from Yorkshire for a family members funeral I wasn't in the mood for confrontation and accepted what we had. If it had been a holiday then I would have asked to change rooms or change hotels. A beautiful hotel spoiled by its bedrooms.
Easy check in. All the staff were very friendly and polite. Bedroom, good with plenty of space, bed comfy, hotel in a great location for our needs, and parking was a bonus. lovely breakfast nice and hot with plenty of choice. Had a evening meal in the restaurant which was very good value.
Excellent food, competitive prices Staff were all friendly, helpful and breakfast staff were so cheerful- especially “ mr Brittas”!
Our room in the old part was tatty. the stairs up to it needed a good hoover, The food was very average We have been coming for Christmas shopping at this time every year but there was no Christmas cheer as there wasn`t any decorations. The Dining room was cold and I had to keep my coat on. When we started coming a good few years ago it was always a lovely stay...but we wont be coming back as it`s really gone down hill..disappointing to say the least
I had a really great experience at this hotel which is full of character and quirks. The staff were friendly and went out of their way to help me with some things like acessing a phone charger. The rooms were cozy and warm with nice carpets underfoot, very peaceful and got a great night's sleep. Excellent value for money.
