Beautiful place! Some owners don’t pick up their dog’s mess but otherwise unspoilt. Tricky for those with mobility issues or pushchairs as there are some steep inclines. Lovely views in the picnic areas.

Mixture of open heath and woodland stretching either side of the road. Close to suburban Durham but feels very rural. Several car parks some with picnic areas. Lots of paths but can be muddy in places. Great for walking dogs, or just walking.

Great place for walks with beautiful views for quite a distance of surrounding areas from the high points on the fell. Can easily spend a great day out if you plan the day ahead. Great for children. Unfortunately some minority of dog owners do not clean up after their pets and this problem appears to be getting worse each time we visit.

Interesting local nature reserve running along Cong Burn. Woodpeckers and deer often heard or seen!
