Really family friendly place. Sounds like a small thing (But it made a big difference) but the cafe made sure our 3 year old daughter's jacket potato was cut open extra wide to cool down quicker - and as parents know there are few things worse than a hungry child sat in front of a hot plate of food!! Gardens are fab with lots for kids to see & explore

Gorgeous botanic gardens in the heart of beautiful Durham city. Good arboretum with well stocked North America and Asia collections as well as a bamboo grove. Really nice damp garden and good tropical greenhouses. Allow yourself a couple of hours to get round and then another half an hour for a cup of tea and a bowl of heir very good soup.

Brilliant place to visit in the summer months. There are nature trails for the kids and plenty of sculptures and other points of interest for the adults. The cafe serves good food at a reasonable price and there's gorgeous outdoor seating for sunny days. The staff are always friendly and helpful too.
