Lovely pub and food. We called ahead to see if we needed to book. The chap said they would wait which I thought was peculiar but once we go there, we were told that they were going to close as they had no customers. I’m so glad they did. We had a great lunch and a couple of drinks after walking a few miles to get there. So grateful to the owners for staying open for us. Just a shame that’s how it is now. Would highly recommend to anyone in the area. Solid service, great lunch and the place is an idyllic village pub. Will be back soon
Just visited for the first time and it will not be the last, food was so fresh and obviously home-made, after having a starter neither me nor hubby could finish our mains. Great service, exceptional food and reasonable prices.
The perfect, cosy pub atmosphere with a vast menu to choose from. Typical pub meals on offer - fish and chips, steak and always pie or bangers and mash, but also lots of other things to choose from, including starters, vegetarian options, and desserts. Carmel and Bill are friendly and relaxed. Rotating menu of ales on tap, as well as spirits, wine, aperitifs, and digestifs! Keep an eye out for games nights and quiz nights, attracting lots of lovely locals as well. A real gem in the middle of the beautiful village of East Hendred. Book if you can, so they know you're coming ;
Had a lovely meal in a cosy, warm and typical country pub. Friendly service and fairly priced.
Fantastic atmosphere, friendly staff and locals. Food was excellent, wel cooked and presented. The Gammon locally sourced, eggs and Chips were truly yummy as was the Fish Pie my wife had. A lovely evening was the result!
What a find. Lovely gardens behind the car park are the first thing you notice. Then you walk into a charming interior - cosy and comfortable. We had Sunday lunch which was excellent. Everything you'd want from a village pub and more
Bill's roast pepper and tomato soup was delicious, Carmels warm smiling greeting is most welcoming. I had lamb shack also delicious. They are such a friendly couple absolutely suited to the pub trade highly recommended
A very pleasant surprise. The pub was beautifully decorated for Christmas with the inglenook fireplace lit and offering a comforting warmth. The food was excellent as was the service. We will definitely be returning. I would certainly recommend this place. Thank you Wheatsheaf for your efforts in such a difficult time for you.
Lovely pub, service and food
