A good spacious bar and seating area, sit anywhere to watch the sports, they had a few rowdy "lads" in there last night but handle them great. Only reason I didn't give 5 because not much social distancing between folks but not really the bars faultService: 4/5
Went in Saturday evening, great pub great bunch of people . I not from the area I live in south Wales, I took my partner and middle son . Also we took our puppy who is 11 weeks old, the locals were really friendly and staff were brilliant, good beer , can't fault the bell , I be returning again in the future,
The Bell Inn in Wantage is a good reason not to go anywhere near Wantage, unless you are a local, I suspect. They Have Laws. Wantage has a classic English Market Square, you can only park in it when the Market isn't there, which is Good and Reasonable. On a sunny October afternoon half past three, it is a tranquil reason to be very grateful you live in Britain. That is until you have to deal with The Bell Inn, on The Square's north west corner. I got my pint, took it outside to have a crafty fag and enjoy The Square. Barman appears: "You can't drink that here. It's against the law. There is a Notice. This is an Alcohol-Free Zone." Now, you need to know that I am a reasonable 65 year-old, rather posh-looking person, who smokes and is used to being regarded as a Cigarette-Sinner. I don't remotely look like a Lager Lout I took one look at him, made a decision, and said: "Would you hold this for me, please?" and passed him my half-drunk pint: "I'll take it in for you." he said. "Thank You." Say I and, putting my cigarette out in the Cigarette-Sinners' Receptacle, headed towards my car. Instead of finishing the whole transaction there, he shouted after me: "You are a very strange person! Don't come back here!" I shan't. And I would advise you to avoid The Bell Inn at Wantage...or perhaps just Wantage - there are nicer places nearby. You should be aware that They Have Laws.
A nice pub. Good covid measures. Lovely staff and really nice beer. Have been twice, once with sport on tv and once without.
My wife and I were staying at Manor Farm B&B and called into Wantage to find somewhere to eat on Sunday evening. Parked in the square. Got out of the car and heard live music coming from The Bell so went to investigate. A band called Hippy Haze were playing music from the sixties and seventies. The were really good but what made it so special was the locals. Clearly all determined to grow old disgracefully, they filled the dance floor with such infectious energy it was impossible not to join in. Despite clearly knowing each other for years, they made us feel hugely welcome. Many thanks to everyone there for giving us an evening to remember. If you're in the area on Sunday evening 5-8pm and you like the vibes from that era then it really has to be done!
Busy drinkers pub. 3 real ales on but most people around me we're drinking lager. I had a pint of Morland Original which was well kept.
Dropped in too watch some football - the bar staff were friendly and there was a lively atmosphere. However all that was ruined by the casual racism - I won't be going back.
Spot on. Friendly staff and locals. Great beer too!
No masks being worn by various customers. Rule of 6 being ignored. Staff not interested in telling these customers that they need to follow the government advice.Service: 3/5
Well kept, reasonably priced beers, fast and efficient service, and, more importantly to me at least, live music every Sunday between five and eight PM.
