Such a great pub. Extremely friendly locals, well kept and very reasonably priced beer. I stayed overnight in Wantage whilst doing part of The Ridgeway and the landlord kindly gave me some duct tape for my feet!
Having frequented TRO for over 26 years, I love the pub. Great ales and ciders and amazing landlords and prices.
The Royal Oak looks to me like a typical old school pub. As my group walked towards it one of us pointed out that it didn't look like it was open, a comment I had to agree with, but once inside it was actually quite busy. The decor hasn't been updated for a very long time, but the beer was good. This not a pub I would go out of my way to visit, but if it was along my route I'd happily stop in for a pint.

This pub is absolutely based. Proper old style, traditional british wet pub. Brilliant selection, ambiance and service. Also was serving up Titanic Plum Porter when I visited. Will return with enthusiasm.
Excellent range of ales and Paul the landlord is a lovely guy and always willing to chat and make you feel at home.
A 'real' pub that serves great beer at a reasonable price
Proper Old School type pub. Real homely feel about it. Landlord and staff are very friendly and welcoming. Always a Great selection of Real ales available. The Imperial Stout is the best I've tasted...but be careful it's a strong one, 10.5%.
There's a great selection of beer in here and the owners behind the bar are really lovely. I went out in wantage on a Thursday night and this pub was by far the busiest in town. The prices are good too when you're used to normal Oxford prices. There are two areas to sit as you walk in. We sat in the left area as you walk in. It was a bit busier in the right area.
The best drink-only pub I have known and that's quite a few! The landlord, of course, makes it I even forgive him for being a Freemason!. Whether you want the best beer, the best cider, or the best whisky, you will find it here. Plus a really friendly bunch of locals.
