I visited the Swan Theatre for the first time yesterday to watch a performance of 'Kyoto'. The show was brilliant! I wasn't expecting a play about a climate conference to be so entertaining. It was very well written and researched. Stephen Kunken was excellent in the main role. The staff at the Theatre were very friendly and helpful. One staff member was so nice she explained the meaning of all the stained glass windows that led up to the Gallery. The staff also handed out COP3 lanyards to the audience which I thought was a nice touch. The Theatre itself was small and intimate. A great night!
It's a great theatre. We went to see The Buddha of Suburbia. Don't be put off by restricted view tickets. You can still see a lot as it is a small theatre.we were in a restricted view seat but as you can see from my photos you can see a lot, just not the bit of stage underneath us. The vast majority of plays is centre stage anyway
Loved it! We stumbled upon it while walking around town, and managed to get standby tickets for A midsummer night’s dream — worth every penny. Staff were super welcoming and helpful, and advised what seats to purchase. And the performance was amazing! We had a blast and would definitely recommend seeing a comedy in here
We watched a production of 'As you like It' in the garden theatre. We're not very well versed with Shakespeare but managed to pick up the gist of the story. We absolutely loved it, it was well acted and funny. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience.
Saw The Merchant of Venice 1936 last Friday at the SWAN. It is such a lovely space and has been vastly improved by the renovations that took place a few years ago. Comfortable seats, sight-lines are good from most seats on the floor, except if you're up close to a pillar, then it's 'bobbing heads' to see the traffic on stage. Highly recommended. And the Merchant of Venice 1936 was enjoyable, if a little biased in it's playing of the language and characterizations. Overall, I enjoyed it. And the SWAN is a great space.
Despite visiting Stratford-upon-Avon on a few occasions, this was the first time we’d visited the Swan Theatre. It’s one of the best I’ve been to. Spacious seating in the Stall, with tiered seating. Circular structure so it looked like there was a good view from any of the seats. We were staying centrally see separate review for Indigo Hotel and it was lovely to be able to walk there within a few minutes. The production of Love’s Labour’s Lost was fabulous. Being the RSC you expect brilliant acting but what really impressed me was the direction by Emily Burns who excelled at bringing out the humour of the play. The set by Joanna Scotcher was brilliant. I’m also thoroughly enjoying the current trend of incorporating musicians into productions.
Managed to get a guided tour booked in advance well worth it. The guide for our tour backstage Tim was extremely knowledgeable - never knew so much went into a production. It's definitely worth it
Such a beautiful, classic theatre. We went to see Hamnet here which was outstandingly produced and had incredible acting. We sat on the top row of stage right, and did have to lean over the railing quite a bit to see the stage, so I’d recommend choosing different seats.
It was my first time to the theatre for Kyoto and the experience was amazing Firstly, it’s a round shaped cozy theatre with comfortable seating. We had side seats in the stalls and were really lucky to be close to the stage. Secondly, everything was very well organised and staff were helpful, would show the way and answer questions. And the Kyoto play has been an absolute masterpiece - very well directed and played by all actors, kept our attention and we could not stop admiring how well the sustainability topic was shown. The theatre itself is in the same building as the main RSC stage and can be accessed from right side of the building or via the gift shop. Overall, amazing experience and we hope to be back soon!
The smaller Swan Theatre is every bit as wonderful as it's bigger sibling next door but the intimacy gives it it's own special charm. The wooden structures are beautiful and a perfect place to enjoy the marvellous theatre productions they stage here.
