An excellent performance of Twelfth Night! The actors were phenomenal, staging excellent and atmosphere was great. Loved how it was humorous which gave it a modern feel and it felt very accessible to follow! Venue was great with spacious areas, lots of toilets and well stocked bars. Seats were great, sat on Row E by stage door 6.
What an awesome place! Staff were super friendly when we popped in and let us know about the costumes exhibition. It was gorgeous- thoughtfully curated with some incredible costumes worn by well-known actors.nThe art work and building interior was gorgeous.nThe cafe looked amazing- if I come back to Stratford this is where I’d come for coffee or a little glass of wine!
We saw Twelth Night on New Years Eve. Thoroughly enjoyed the performance. The staff were lovely. We were rather hurried out after the performance. I guess everyone wanted to get away for NYE which was fair enough and it saved me from myself and no doubt much money spent in the souvenir shop !!
Saw a matinee performance of As You Like It in the Holloway Garden Theatre - the outdoor theatre behind the main building. The play was fantastic of course. It was a hot day with strong sunshine, and there is little shade, so I think some people found it too hot. My advice is definitely go for the centre seats if you're at a matinee on a sunny day, as the sun was behind us. The side seats all were in direct heat. There's nothing quite like Shakespeare in an outdoor theatre, and with the truly superb cast you can't do better. The play was a little abridged and this was good as the seats are fold-down plastic, so by the time it finished we were just starting to fidget. Happy to say though, tickets were £20 for an adult and £10 for a child, and the programme was only £4, so it really was excellent value for the price. Can't compliment the actors enough, and all had discreet microphones so the sound was excellent, well done to the sound engineers on the day. Great use was made of the set and costumes were fantastic - I bet the actors were sweltering in the heat but they didn't let it show. An experience I'll remember for years!
Called in for a coffee in the café. A matinee performance of Othello was taking place so we couldn't see the 'stage'. You could however watch the performance from a small screen in the café. The building did look very interesting, loved the green staircase to the upper levels.
