Most deserts are gluten and dairy free, which is great! They have a smooth session IPA on tap and good wine. Staff are super chill and helpful. The Rose is a very nice spot to drop in, have a couple drinks, have a couple bites, and have a few laughs. Def recommend.
Absolutely dire!!! Girl behind the bar very helpful and apologetic but bar and restaurant area very cold. Most of the menu was 'off', no steak, burgers or sausages, no hummus and crisps really! could have popped to the shop up the road. My husband and friend chose chicken and mushroom pie which when it came was still cold in the middle so heated from frozen, taken back to the kitchen to reheat. When it came back veg etc very overcooked. I chose sticky toffee pudding for dessert which was also cold in the middle despite very hot custard. Such a shame. This used to be a great place. We won't be visiting again
Not as good when they were in partnership with the george at Babraham. Staff very friendly but short staffed. Sunday roast very poor 2 dinners had to be sent back. Sweet very nice but overall very disappointed
We visited for a family meal in memory of my late dad's birthday as the Rose had always been one of my mum's favourite restaurants in the past. I had booked in advance so expected a table in the restaurant. We arrived to find we were seated in the bar although the restaurant was almost empty. There was no table service and no wine list but this could all be accepted. However as we began to order our starters, we were advised that several options we wanted were unavailable. We were advised that the nachos were available so went for this option. On ordering our mains, again 2 of the 4 meals ordered were unavailable so we ordered our second / third choice. When the nachos came out they were stuck so hard to the bowl that we couldn't even wedge them out using a fork. I explained to the General Manager who grabbed the bowl and walked off, no apology at all. Another bowl of nachos were brought out which were stone cold, the cheese wasn't even vaguely melted. Again we explained to the manager who asked if we wanted to cancel our mains. In hindsight we should have given up then but wanted to give the mains an opportunity to improve what was becoming an awful experience. My sisters third choice main course of sausage and mash came out and was again stone cold. At this point we could take no more, my mum was extremely upset on what should have been a celebration of my dad. She explained the situation to the Assistant Manager who responded with 'don't try to guilt trip me'. I told him this was not acceptable and we would be leaving immediately. He asked for payment of our food and drink which I was shocked by considering it had been inedible. I asked to speak to his Manager but he said she was in the kitchen and wouldn't come out. He finally went to ask her to speak with us as we were extremely upset, she immediately demanded that we pay the bill. I explained that we weren't willing to do so after such an upsetting and disappointing experience and that we would be leaving. As we walked out she was shouting at us across the car park. Overall this was disappointing service and unacceptable behaviour towards customers.
Went for a roast the beef was chewy and one person could not even cut it. A steak knife was suggested but it was so tough had a replacement meal instead, but that didn't come until dessert. Service slow and had to ask for cutlery for dessert.
We've visited The Rose twice, once under the old management which wasn't great, as unfortunately it took 3hrs to get our meals. We were excited to go again under the new management, so we went again today. And it was even worse, they ran out of roasts by 2pm! No apology, just a shrug and the staff behind the bar complaining about customers complaining with awful language despite a 6 year old standing next to me. The table behind got their roasts and said it was awful, so maybe we got lucky. If enough people complain then you're doing something wrong. The new management need to address these problems quickly, or they'll go the same way as the previous management. They'll have to do it without me though, as we'll not be going back. 2 stars as the beer was pretty good. Maybe just visit for a drink and avoid the food?
Loved it. There's a little and cozy room for the restaurant side of the pub which is fantastic. Excellent food and the menus vary from time to time. Great experience in Shelford.
Very nice food we had burgers, excellent beer Charles Wells DNA and very attentive service.
Open again after being closed for a few months. Before the new year they were just selling drinks, but without the range you would expect from a drinks only pub. Now selling food again so I'll update again after I've eaten there. The menu looks much like the menu from the 90's.
Dropped in without a reservation at the end of a busy lunch service. Despite this the staff proactively checked whether they could seat us, and to apologise for the almost non-existent delay gave us a round of drinks on the house. Impeccable service, nice atmosphere and a good beer garden and a great roast. Will be back, thank you.
