Had our Christmas dinner here. Atmosphere was amazing. This place is so lovely, that fireplace in the middle is just great. Unfortunately all veg green beans, sprouts, carrots been absolutely undercooked it seemed like they haven’t even seen the boiling water but other than that everything was great.
A gem of pub this one! I visited a couple of weeks and had a mixed visit great service, wonderful setting but I was a little underwhelmed by the food but I sensed that they normally do better so returned for lunch on what I thought would be a quiet Saturday afternoon. With the car park brimming the pub had a great atmosphere. Warmly greeted by the team and a fire crackling nearby. It was busy but not overcrowded, service was attentive and personable and the food was wonderful. Seabass fillets for the good wife and a brisket pie and mash for me. The main was excellent and dessert was sublime. We will be back with a bigger group next time. Thank you to all the team. If like me you haven't visited the Green Man in a number of years put it back on you list of places to eat in Cambridge in 2023.
Just had a delightful meal / date night here. The food was good. Service excellent. Sophie our waitress was positive, polite and made the atmosphere fun. Great work.. and a lovely evening
I had a very tasty starter at The Green Man in Trumpington! My partner had a Roast Beef dinner and he did not enjoy it much at all. The Yorkshire Pudding was crunchy/crispy and the beef was extremely rubbery! Overall, I’d recommend The Green Man for a meal out but I wouldn’t go for a Sunday Lunch!
I live nearby so this has historically been the place I take my parents out for lunch, because it’s close, has accessible parking my mum has limited mobility and used to do nice food. Honestly we won’t be coming back, and when I mentioned to some friends how awful it was yesterday they said that they had been to the Green Man recently and it was also terrible when they were there. When we arrived, we had booked a table so waited to be seated. There were no staff around to greet us at all. One man seemed to be serving tables but ignored us despite us standing by the check in area. We waited over ten minutes, seemingly being ignored, then tried behind the bar to find someone. Once seated we ordered food. There were only three of us, and it was quite late for a lunchtime the restaurant was very empty - maybe only four or five other tables of people most of whom were already eating, we waited nearly an HOUR for our food. No one approached at all in that time or said it would be slow etc. we very nearly walked out at the point. When it did arrive it was nice, but honestly extremely overpriced for what it was - I basically spent £32 on four fish cakes. We asked for another drink at one point and assumed it had been forgotten as it took so long to arrive, although it did appear MUCH later - it was literally just a bottle of tonic water from a fridge - it didn’t need to take so long. The lady working in the restaurant area was friendly and enthusiastic - the man absolutely not. Generally - apart from her - it was pretty disappointing compared to Previous visits and we’ll be going further afield in future.
Very good food bit pricey but big portions worth it for a once time experience. Dog friendly pubFood: 5/5
Dirty, sticky bar. Apathetic, clueless bartender. I went to the bar planning on a drink and a snack. It was not crowded but the server took a while to appear and directed to me to another bar because she "didn't have a till". I asked about the Spanish lager I'd seen at the first bar, which was not present at the second. She didn't know anything else about it, not even the strength, or anything about the other beers. I requested half a Neck Oil. The glass half filled with dregs, then the barrel had to be changed, so I got half dregs, half new. While waiting I noticed that the bar, as with the first, was disgusting - covered in sticky patches and smears, no clean areas at all. I asked if there were bar snacks and was told crisps only, not even nuts. Not true, as I hunted around for a menu and found snack options, then ordered a parfait. You cannot order without a table, and as the bar was in an unusable state, I indicated the large empty table behind me. When I came to sit there with my drink I noticed it was also totally disgusting, had probably not been cleaned in days judging from the accumulation of sticky patches, puddles, crumbs, smears spanning the entire table. When the waitress brought the parfait I asked for it to be cleaned and she did so - she was good. And so was the parfait, even if the rocket looked days old, being limp, curling and dehydrated. But as I left, I began to notice how dirty everything was, not just the surfaces. As soon as you enter the building, you see the floor is covered with dust and bits, carpets and all. It looks like nothing is ever cleaned. This ought to be a great place, a fine old building, some of the food was good and the London prices are high enough. Yet I've seen cleaner and better-run East End burger vans.
I visited the Green Man mid week at 5pm for a work Christmas meal. We pre ordered our food. The service was good but the food was just ok. Most of us left some of our food. The Brussel sprouts were so hard you could not cut them . The other vegetables on the plate were also under cooked. We were able to pay for our drinks as we went along which was good in a large group. I had a mushroom Wellington for main which was more like a pie as the contents spilled out when cut. Christmas crackers were provided We were squashed onto three tables which made it difficult to get in and out as we were elbow to elbow. The interior is nice and there is an open fire. I could not hear any background music. The toilets were cold and a bit run down, doors didn't lock, no toilet roll in one. There is a free carpark on site though it was not well lit when I arrived and I ended up coming in the exit as did other cars.
Fantastic family friendly Pub/Restaurant. Staff go above and beyond to make sure you are looked after. Had Sunday lunch and everything was cooked to perfection. Highly recommended.
Arrived at 5.30pm for some initial drinks with friends. Pub area really lovely and welcoming. Then moved to the restaurant for dinner at 6.30pm. Beautiful atmosphere, fireplace on. Waitress extremely kind and friendly. Food exceptionally good, I had a fillet steak. Prices aligned with gastro-pub standards. I cycled there but wide car park available. Probably I would have enjoyed the meal more if the restaurant were slightly warmer, but not such a big issue. Definitely recommended.
