Had a great lunch at the George today. Don’t know why we don’t visit more often, we’re only 15 mins away. Good quality Sandwiches, a Huge Menu to choose from including desserts. Decent Coffee, Great choice of Non-Alcoholic Beers. Great Garden. The only downside was the Service…Lottie needs to work on her Banter! Haha, only Joking, both girls were brilliant, but Big Shout out to Lottie for the Fun and constant Banter and Smiles. It’s what you want from a great Village Pub. Made to feel very welcome from minute one. Well Played
Had our wedding reception at The George last weekend, Claire and the team did a fantastic job, everybody loved the food. Can't recommend highly enough for anybody looking for a wedding breakfast. Thanks again!
Only stopped for a cheeky pint mid walk. Based on a sample of one pint, very well kept beer, lovely setting and very pleasant staff. Inside it's quite food orientated, but the outdoor seats were great to enjoy the evening sun. I'll come back soon and hopefully upgrade to 5 when I've spent a little more time here.
Loved this place, we were stopping in Barlow for a week for a holiday and came across this fantastic place. The owners were fantastic and could not do enough for us and was spotless and food was mouthwatering and homemade. Definitely will be back!
Lovely day having a cold drink outside this very well maintained pub. Lovely decor. Friendly staff.
Kicking this off with the location! Nice quiet town. 5 mins from me. Great parking space. Good clean pub/restaurant! Good friendly people! Made to feel at home. Seating is great! The burger and chips was great. The burger is juicy and cooked perfectly. Chunky chips and gravy was top .. The battered onion rings were to chunky. Abit thinner and they would be perfect! As they were abit to moist The salmon linguine was ok. The salmon caviar was missing. But was decent. Very well priced to. We would return
Friday lunchtime at The George was stark evidence of how inflation is hitting the pub trade. The menus reproduced here don't know when they were taken show traditional fish and chips costing £11.95. On Sept 2 they were £15.95! The dish was generous and delicious but gives a worrying indication of how prices are rising. At least the beer - a good selection and well kept - hadn't hit the dreaded £5 a pint mark yet. Three of us sat outside on the sunny terrace, made even more comfortable by a circular brick wall that shields the wind while radiating stored heat. A common theme of the economic crisis is shortage of staff in the catering trade. No such problems here - all the young waiters and waitresses were on their toes, polite and helpful. My only criticism was the scallops were rather bland, lacking that essential seafood aroma. I would have expected better quality for the price. But that's a minor point in the context of an otherwise enjoyable lunch in a lovely old pub.
My wife and I had lunch at the George a month ago and we were so impressed that we've been back twice since. Yesterday we had a traditional Sunday roast with all the trimmings. 5 stars for food and another 5 stars for service. The pub was full but with so many attentive and polite staff we were collected and taken to our table by within minutes.
I have visited here for lunch many times and it's been great, so I decided to recommend for my team Christmas lunch, unfortunately not up to the stranded I had previously experienced. some of the food was well done served without yorkshire puddings and they forgot our desserts, no crackers on the table. quite disappointed my opinion not worth the money. will not stop visiting for lunch but will think twice about Christmas.
Had a nice lunch here on a Saturday. Was lucky to get table as was quite busy. Ordered bacon and onion bagel and two club sandwiches. There was a bit of confusion over who did / didn’t order chips but the waitress was very helpful and issue was resolved quickly. Nice coffee. Would come back again.
