The Old Bookbinders Ale House

About

Jericho's best kept secret since 1869

Story

Dinner is available from Tuesday to Saturday from 5.30pm - 9.15pm. Lunch is available Tuesday - Saturday from 12pm - 2.30pm. On Sundays the kitchen is open throughout the day from 12pm - 7.30pm

The Old Bookbinders Ale House is a much loved gem of Jericho with many happy memories for many local residents. Whilst you have many pubs to choose from in Jericho none quite have the feel and atmosphere of The Bookies is blessed with.

A short 15 minute walk from Gloucester Green Bus Station, The Bookies is tucked away in the back end of Jericho. Walking down to the end of Cranham Street you'll find us on the left hand side, right next to the canal.
Unfortunately parking in Jericho is notoriously bad, so it may be worth leaving the car on Walton Street in one of the on street pay bays.

A hidden gem in Jericho! Beautiful place, with unique and tasty food at decent prices and good selection of drinks. The staff was friendly and the place lively. My crepe was delicious. I absolutely loved the place and would definitely recommend it to people!
A very warm, lovely and cozy pub with beautiful and antique interiors. A lot of drinks to choose from and a decent menu for food. I enjoyed the vibe and the service, which is also excellent. The food is also quite decent. Since the pub is smaller than the other pubs in the area and is quite popular, it is often busy. Would definitely recommend booking in advance - especially during peak times.
Brilliant as usual! Delicious food we had complete and salmon crepes, great service, and amazing location, quiet and lovely. The outside area is great for sunny days!
Made it just before the kitchen closed but the manager was kind enough to take the order. The burger was great and juicy, with bacon and eggs, and the steak was really good. Try their cheese fries. It’s phenomenal. Also the scenery is rather amusing. In the heart of Oxford.
Amazing pub with lovely live music and great crepes. I would recommend the “La Complete”. Also great lager beers.
Very cozy, and staff were kind. French food menu was great for us. I recommend to book your table at the front part of the pub as its interior is intersting and quite different from the room behind.
We reserved a table here for food before a theatre show and so glad we did! It's popular for a reason! Great food and friendly, attentive service. Dog friendly too. The crepes were delicious. Highly recommended
Awesome pub with fantastic food and staff. It's dog friendly if you'd like to bring yours along and also their selection of beers and drinks is very good. One of the favourites in oxford
Had a few drinks and dinner at the bookbinder's. Staff are really friendly and managed to get us a table after around 10 minutes, which was great for Friday night. Good selection of ales on draft. Food was excellent. Also offer a prix fix menu, 2 courses for 18.50.
Always a great place for good chats with good friends. The decor is super eclectic and fun and so festive at winter!! Garlic and chilli fries are spectacular.
